Pune  University, also known as Savitribai Phule Pune University, was established back in the year 1949, two years after the independence. The entire campus of the university is spread across 411 acres area. Pune University is a collegiate public state University.

The university has got its name after Savitribai Phule who was a social reformer, poet and an educationalist of Maharashtra.  She believed that the empowerment of women in society would come through education. The Pune University has many affiliated colleges and institutions under it which are located in Nashik, Pune and Magar district.

ISC or in full form International Students’ Center is also present in Pune University campus which is the residence for the International students, and the ISC also operates the House of International Transit. 

There is a girls’ hostel in the university campus which consists of clean rooms and excellent dining place. Pune University has eight hostels for men in its campus.

The Jaykar Library is one of the centres of attraction in the Pune University’s campus. It has become a part of the programme of Universal Digital Library during 2002. The Library offers around 2,000 journals to the students with access to the internet in its area. 

Apart from all these facilities, the university campus offers bus services to the students. Pune University also has a bank and post office located on its campus. The printing press also aids the publication process and other works concerning the publication.
