NIT Goa – National Institute of Technology Overview

Founded in the year 2010, NIT Goa is an autonomous premier institute situated in Farmagudi, Ponda, 29 km southeast of Panaji. Spread over a region of 53.63 acres, the college is home to 2,530 students and is currently mentored by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay through a monitoring cell set up by the HRD Ministry.

The institute provides UG, PG and Doctoral programmes in Engineering consisting of courses like B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech and PhD.

The three main departments of the college are Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. NIT Goa offers a total of five Undergraduate courses, three Postgraduate courses and nine PhD programmes. 

Today NIT Goa holds a rank of 87 in the college rankings of NIRF 2019. It previously had a rank somewhere between 101 and 150 in the years 2017, and 2018. NIT Goa ranking was 146 by Edu Rand in the year 2015.

The faculty here is considered to be highly qualified and most of them hold a PhD degree in their respective field of study. The faculty strength is 350 with a student to faculty ratio of 50:1. NIT Goa Course Highlights

• Goa NIT offers a full-time four years B.Tech programme. Willing candidates need to pass their senior secondary examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology. NIT Goa fees for the B.Tech degree is 4.76 lakhs.
• The university provides an M.Tech programme for a period of two years along with a fee of 1.63 lakhs. The eligibility criteria of NIT Goa for M.Tech courses requires the willing candidates to pass their B.Tech or M.Sc degrees with more than or equal to a score of 60%.
• NIT Goa also conducts a full-time PhD programme for three years with a fee of INR 70,350. The candidate needs to have a Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in the required field of study with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 to become eligible for NIT Goa PhD.

NIT Goa Admission Process

• NIT Goa BE / B.Tech admission - Admission is based on the JEE Main cut-offs stated by the institution itself followed by various rounds of counselling depending on the desired course or stream.

• NIT Goa ME / M.Tech admission -  Admission is based on the marks obtained by candidates in their GATE exams.

• NIT Goa PhD admission - NIT Goa PhD admission 2018 had candidates shortlisted on the basis of GATE score or CSIR, NBHM or UGC-NET qualification, followed by written test and personal interview. NIT Goa PhD admission 2019 will follow similar proceedings.

NIT Goa Scholarships

NIT Goa offers scholarships to deserving candidates, especially to those from poor economic backgrounds with an annual family income lower than a value specified beforehand by the institute.

The college provides assistantship to reserved category students as well. Only candidates admitted to the institute under the regular full-time scheme are entitled to avail scholarship/assistantship and HRA as per the norms set by the Government of India.

• Library: The Library at NIT Goa keeps a rich collection of more than 6500 books. The institute also has a subscription to databases of several e-journals which can be availed by the students through the college intranet. The IEEE Xplore Digital Library provides access to over 3-million e-documents in the field of computer science, electrical engineering and electronics. 

• Hostel: The college offers hostel facilities to students with shared accommodation within the NIT Goa campus or in a rented building located close to the campus. There are one NIT Goa girls hostel and three more for boys. The NIT Goa hostel provisions include basic amenities such as mess and Wi-Fi internet connectivity. 

• Sports Complex: The college has a Badminton Court, Basketball Court, Cricket Ground, Football Ground and a Volleyball Court.
