Admission to the Undergraduate level B.Des course, candidates are shortlisted on the basis of the General Aptitude Test or GAT and Common Admission Test or CAT followed by a situation test.

Hence, NIFT Mumbai cut off is declared after GAT and CAT scores are released. The candidates who scored above the sectional cut-off marks are called for the Situation Test, conducted by the NIFTs.

Basically, the Situation Test is a hands-on test in order to evaluate a student’s skill for material handling as well as his or her innovative ability on any given situation with a given set of materials. However, for Undergraduate B.Ftech the institute only considers General Aptitude Test or GAT exam scores.

There is a maximum age limit for an applicant that is he or she should not be more than 23 years of age to apply for the Undergraduate level courses.

Admission to the Postgraduate level both M.Design and MFM courses, candidates are selected through the General Aptitude Test or GAT and Common Admission Test or CAT scores followed by a Group Discussion and Personal Interview round. Hence, NIFT Mumbai cutoff list is published after GAT and CAT scores are released.

The candidates who score above the cut-off marks are called for the GD and PI round in their allotted centres. In each course, 20% seats or 06 seats are reserved for students of Maharashtra.

Additionally, 15% for Schedule Caste candidates, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe students, 27% for OBC category candidates, 3% Horizontal Reservation for PwD candidates and 15% Supernumerary for Foreign Nationals or SAARC or NRI candidates seats are reserved in every course.
