IME IIT Kanpur Admission 2023

The inception of the Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) department dates back to 1974 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. IME provides a diverse array of academic offerings encompassing undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including M.Tech., MBA, and doctoral degrees. Beyond the standard curriculum, IME IIT extends its educational spectrum to include a postdoctoral program and a Minor in IME program. Admissions for the academic year 2022 at IME IIT Kanpur have already been finalised.

The M.Tech program offered by IME has a total intake capacity of 26 students. Similarly, the 2-year MBA program admits 78 students in total. IME IIT also offers dual degree programs that combine undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, such as BS/B.Tech + MBA or B.S./B.Tech + M.Tech, which have a duration of 6 years. The Ph.D. program is available for students with prior work experience and typically lasts for 2 years.

  • Candidates interested in the 2-year M.Tech program at IIT Kanpur should hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a master’s degree in science with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks. SC/ST candidates can apply with the qualifying degree regardless of the aggregate marks.

To be eligible for the Ph.D. program, candidates should possess a master’s degree in Management/Industrial Engineering with a minimum of 55% marks. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 75% marks, along with a valid GATE score, are also eligible to apply.

Candidates with a master’s degree in science/arts/commerce/CA, having a minimum aggregate of 65% marks and a GATE percentile of 95 and above, can also apply.

Applicants are shortlisted based on their academic qualifications and prior work experience, if applicable. Shortlisted candidates are then invited for the Written Test and Personal Interview round, which is conducted on the campus.

Finally, a separate merit list is prepared for each category (General and SC/ST) based on the performance in the Written Test and Personal Interview round.

Candidates’ shortlisting for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) round is based on their academic record and work experience. Ultimately, the final selection is determined by the merit in the WAT and PI rounds.

Admissions are available twice a year, specifically in June and December. Candidates from the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes category who have fulfilled the minimum qualification criteria mentioned above are eligible to apply regardless of their marks/CPI and will be considered for admission.

IME IIT Kanpur Application Process for 2023 

The application process for the programs offered by IME IIT Kanpur is conducted online. Candidates are required to register online, providing their personal details and submitting a photograph along with all the necessary information. Once the online form is submitted, candidates are advised to print a copy of their application form.

The application fee for General and OBC applicants is INR 1600, while for SC/ST and Physically Challenged applicants, it is INR 800. The fee should be paid through a demand draft payable to ‘Registrar IIT Kanpur’, payable at Kanpur.
