Founded under the Madras University Act by Sir C.R. Reddy, the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved Andhra University is a private university located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The university was started to provide service to the entire linguistic population of Andhra Pradesh as a residential teaching-cum-affiliating University. Andhra University has a rank of 16 among universities and an overall rank of 29 under the NIRF rankings of 2019.

All the applicants are admitted to the university courses based on the marks scored in their qualifying degree, entrance examinations, which are sometimes conducted at the university level or state-level or national-level. Candidates need to score above a specified mark in these exams to get admitted to a particular course or discipline.

Results and Cut-off
Andhra University declares the cut-off list for its several courses and degrees once the results of their respective entrance examinations are calculated. The candidates need to obtain a score which is equal to or more than the cut-off mark specified by the university to get admitted to their desired courses.
For example, M.Tech and B.Tech aspirants need to clear the AUEET Cut Off, Postgraduate candidates need to cross the AUCET cut-offs, Research line aspirants need to clear the AURCET cut off, MBA and MCA candidates need to reach the APICET Exam Cut Off and LAW candidates need to clear the AP LAWCET cut-offs.
The cut-offs are relaxed for reserved candidates like SCs, STs and OBCs. The courses offered under the Andhra University School of Education is solely managed by Andhra University SDE. The results for these courses are declared by the SDE at its own portal.

The scholarship and assistantship programmes offered by Andhra University to its students include the following:
- Gyana Bhumi is a scholarship scheme which is provided to the backward classes, SC and ST candidates allowing them to continue their education completely free of cost.
- Class toppers are offered a certain amount of scholarship money.
- GATE qualified candidates are given a stipend of INR 12,000 while studying M.Tech in Andhra University.

The library at Andhra University keeps a rich collection of more than 505000 books, 120 Indian journals (print), 62 foreign journals (print), 35 general magazines, 8500+ e-journals, 50,000 back volumes, 15 newspapers and 880 CD-ROMs.
With the help of the UGC INFONET programme e-journals are made accessible to the campus academic community. The university provides hostel or lodging provisions for both boys and girls. It has a total of 33 hostels, 23 for boys with 3,200 beds and 10 for girls with 2,000 beds.
