Veeranjaneyulu, a second year MTech student, ECE Department, from NIT Surathkal (NITK) allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday, September 7, by hanging himself from an iron pipe in his hostel room. The body, found on Wednesday night by hostel authorities, was sent to a hospital in the vicinity.
Some students from NITK told PaGaLGuY that they were informed about the incident by their department professors after the body was sent to the hospital. “We were told that a suicide note was found near the dead body in which Veeranjaneyulu had written that he was taking his life due to personal reasons,” they said.
A condolence meet was arranged in the Pavillion area in NITK campus, on September 9, at 5pm. Some 50-60 odd students had attended the meet, along with few members of the ECE Department. Ramesh Kini, Associate Professor, ECE Dept., said, “Only a few people from the institute knew about the suicide.” The information about the meet was sent to the students of NITK through a WhatsApp message.
