SRM’s Pachamuthu remanded to judicial custody over corruption charges

SRM (Sri Sri Ramaswammy Memorial) University Chancellor, T R Pachamuthu was remanded to judicial custody today. He was arrested yesterday (August 26, 2016) after parents of the medical stream aspirants filed cases of cheating against him.

More than 100 complaints have been registered by parents who allege that Pachamuthu had agreed to admit their wards in return for ‘capitation fees’. Eventually, he never got to admitting the aspirant, even after pocketing the money. Pachamuthu was arrested under IPC Section 402(cheating), 406(criminal breach of trust) and 34 (criminal act where people with common intention are involved).

While speaking to PaGaLGuY, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Central Crime Branch, Chennai, S. Radhakrishnan said that the arrest was ordered only after carefully going through the list of complaints and speaking to witnesses.

Incidentally, Pachamuthu’s lawyers have filed for bail and also filed petitions against the arrest. They will however, be heard only on Monday.
