Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College was established on 1961. The foundation stone was laid by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India and the institute was named after his, Motilal Nehru. It was transformed into a National Institute of Technology and Deemed University on June 26, 2002. Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad (MNNIT) was thus officially born in 2002.                                       

The MNNIT campus spreads over 222 acres (0.9 km2) on the bank river Ganga. It is a fully residential institution with seven hostels for boys and two for girls. One hostel is exclusively for postgraduate students. The campus has a Computer Center, Central Library, labs and workshops, a multipurpose hall, conference and seminar hall. The institute also has two super computers. There are two banks and a post office within the campus.

Studying at MNNIT

The Institute offers degrees in nine B.Tech departments with students admitted through the JEE. It also awards nineteen M.Tech. degrees. Postgraduate Programmes (including part-time), MCA, MBA, M.Sc. (Mathematics and Scientific Computing) and Master of Social work (M.S.W.) programmes are also offered. MNNIT registers candidates for the Ph.D. degree. A majority of the faculty members possess Ph.D. degrees as the PhD degrees are also open to faculty members.

Life beyond the classroom

Culrav the annual cultural festival showcases the cultures of India through various competitions. Avishkar is the annual technical meet while Gnosiomania, annual national level quiz festival. Swagat is welcome party for the first year students whereas Ruksat is the farewell party for final year students.
