In a one on one conversation Ms. Swati (Batch 2004-2006) shares glimpses from her life, career and also memories from her days at Fortune Institute of International Business-

Better things come to those who work Harder

I have always had an inherent craving for learning. I would like to say that my sincerity towards my studies paid me back well. Learning and exploring different aspects of business has been my passion and when I joined Fortune Institute of International Business, I got the golden opportunity to live my passion every day. The world class curriculum and the wonderful Faculty members left no stone unturned to make a student grow in all possible sectors. It was an amazing world of knowledge, resources and ambience altogether at FIIB that had carved the person I am today.

Life and Career

“Be yourself, everyone else is already taken” – Oscar Wilde

I have always led a wonderful life both at work and home. One week prior to my Convocation at FIIB, I joined IKEA (Indian Trading Office) as a Supply planner, but got promoted to work as a purchaser in less than two years. I take pride in saying that I was the ‘Youngest Purchaser’ in Global IKEA and had delivered many profitable global projects with success. After that, life has been smooth and yet challenging at the same time. I have been exposed to different cultures and geographies in my life after FIIB and have found the opportunity to put into application the teachings from my revered mentors in various phases of my life. My family has always been supportive towards my decisions, even if it was about settling in a country other than India. I can speak different languages now (especially Mandarin); I now really know that I have grown both as an individual and as a professional after my life at FIIB.

After passing out from FIIB, I have also trained with a part time PG Diploma in International Trade Law from the Supreme Court’s Law College (ILI) to equip myself to deal in legal issues related to International Trade at work. After that it has been a forward march altogether with a number of promotions, awards and achievements coming from time to time.

Standing at this point of life, I consider myself very fortunate that once I was had the opportunity to be a part of this great institution that carved out the professional in me to become what I am today. FIIB taught me how to play with my strengths and make them work for us. My mother still continues to work with FIIB. Besides, I am always available for any contribution that I can make in the progress of the Institute. I shall always remain indebted to FIIB and its Faculty for the extraordinary quantum of wisdom they shared with us.
