Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM) was founded in 1995 by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Education Trust to perpetuate the memory of the second Prime Minister of India, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has recognized the following courses:

  • Two Year Full-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management
  • Two Year Full-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management-Finance
  • Three year Part-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives
  • 15 Month Full-Time Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives
  • Three Year Full-Time Programme in Master of Computer Applications (Affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi)

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has also recognized the Two Year Full -Time PGDM as equivalent to MBA Degree by an Indian University.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management was deeply honoured by the presence of the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil on February 23rd, 2011 at the LBSIM campus, Dwarka, Delhi. The Inauguration began with unveiling the statue of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, freedom fighter, statesman and the second Prime Minister of India. The honorable President, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil congratulated the institute for its new campus and its landmark achievements in the last 15 years. This was a matter of great pride and prestige for the institute, which is built upon the pillars of honesty, integrity, simplicity and virtues of Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The infrastructure and facilities provided by the institute fosters healthy learning environment. Institutes state-of-the-art library has a collection of about 28,000 books/reports and 170 periodicals in print form. The library is affiliated to Developing Library Network (DELNET) and has electronic databases like EBSCO Publishing, PROWESS etc. The computer lab has latest hardware and software facilities. Gymnasium, cafeteria, conference room, MDP room and seminar hall, with a 300 sitting capacity in the auditorium are some of the unique features of this institute.

National Award

LBSIM has instituted the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management in 1998. Every year the President of India gives the award in Rashtrapati Bhawan. The awardees include Prof. C.K. Prahlad (2000), Mr. Sam Pitroda (2001), Mr. N.R. Narayan Murthy (2002), Dr. R.R. Mashelkar (2003), Smt Ela Ramesh Bhatt (2004), Dr. C.P. Srivastava (2005), Dr. Naresh Trehan (2006), Dr. M.S. Swaminathan (2007), Dr. E. Sreedharan (200, Shri. Sunil Bharti Mittal (2009) and Mrs. Aruna Roy (2010).

Research and Publications

The institute is involved in organizing a series of management development programme for Public sector enterprises. Faculty members are encouraged to take up projects funded by seed money and other consultancy assignments. The institutes journal, LBS Journal of Management and Research is a bi-annual publication aims at a rich exchange of ideas among researchers and practicing managers by publishing research papers/articles with emphasis on various management issues.

Involvement in Rural Development

The students are being introduced to the `Real Bharat where they work to solve the problems of Indian villages as part of their Corporate Interface Day. It is a pioneering effort made by the institute to fulfill the societal objectives in collaboration with LBS Research Centre for Policy and Social Change, with which it has symbiotic relationship.
