The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main on April 2, 2017. Like this year (2016), Main will be conducted in both offline and online mode.
An official from the JEE Unit confirmed the development to PaGaLGuY. “We will launch the JEE Main 2017 website by the last week of October, and the exam is scheduled for the first Sunday of April 2017,” said the official. Engineering aspirants can attempt JEE Main three times. Aspirants who took the exam in 2015 or 2016, can take JEE Main 2017. However, candidates are advised to verify themselves for the eligibility of JEE Advanced.

Tentative schedule for JEE 2017

  • Last week of October (expected): JEE Main website launch – www.jeemain.nic.in
  • December 1, 2016 onwards (expected): JEE Main registration to begin
  • April 2, 2017 (final): JEE Main exam 
  • Last week of April 2017: JEE Main results are declared
  • Last week of April 2017: JEE Advanced registration to begin
  • May 21, 2017 (final): JEE Advanced exam date

JEE Main is the entrance test to secure a seat in various engineering colleges, including National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) etc. Only the top two lakh candidates qualify for Advanced, the gateway to the country’s prestigious engineering institutes, the Indian Institutes of Technology. In 2016, about 13 lakh candidates took the exam.
