Hi,

I want my brother to join a crash course for JEE(main) and I have heard that IITIANS PACE is a good institute for training on the same.

Any suggestions ?

Starting today, PaGaLGuY's Engineering vertical has decided to shift all gears to the JEE Mains 2016 exam. To be conducted on April 3 (offline) and April 9, 10 (online), this exam is probably the most coveted among all in India - it controls a mammoth aspirant market of over 20 lakhs.

Today (March 14, 2016) onwards for the next 20 days or so, PaGaLGuY will bring to you a plethora of short pieces around JEE 2016.

There will be tips from the experts from the coaching arena and  tit-bits from engineering aspirants empathising with other aspirants. Parents whose wards are in the fray will also be voicing loud their concerns while those who have done it all and are in the IITs will also be sharing some gyaan.

No, we don't promise that after reading our fare, you will be propelled straight into an IIT but yes, your prep work will seem like fun and PaGaLGuY is a nice site to hang around with for future engineering goals.

Beat the negative marking scheme in JEE Main 2016 with 100% accuracy

The pen and paper based, offline mode Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main will be conducted on April 3, 2016. The question paper has a total of 90 questions, where each correct answer is of four marks and for every wrong answer a student loses one-fourth marks, which means one mark for every wrong answer. Understanding the marking scheme for JEE Main is not tricky. But to understand how aspirants should attempt it successfully, PaGaLGuY spoke to an expert from Bansal Classes.

Ashish Gupta, Managing Director, Bansal Classes- Jaipur

"Aspirants should focus on accuracy than speed. The minimum marks requirement to qualify for JEE Advance in 2015 was 113. Which means by attempting 30 correct questions, students could have qualified for Advance.

However, it will be impossible to sit for Advance just by scoring 113 marks in Main, they need to score a rank under two lakh. Here, is a tip that will help students to score better in Main, they should be thorough in their revision. They should have their Physics, Chemistry and Maths formulas on their tips. The level of question paper for Main is based on class 11 and 12 syllabus of CBSE, which means if they were well-prepared for their board exams, they can crack JEE Main. Students should note that their class 12 marks are given 40% weightage in JEE.

Aspirants should be accurate in solving questions, there should be no scope of confusion. Question paper for Main is comparatively easier than Advance, the number of questions are more but the time is less. But students should not hurry, in a hope to attempt all questions, because in attempting all, they might answer some questions wrong. This mistake can cost them one-fourth of the marks.

To achieve a good rank in Main, aspirants should focus on revision and hopefully, their class 12 boards are going good.

Aspirants should not aim to attempt the whole paper, rather they should focus on whatever they attempt, is correct."

PaGaLGuY wishes all aspirants good luck for JEE Mains 2016.

Students can ask their doubts regarding the JEE exam 2016 in the Comments section below. We will get the experts to answer.

Converting Time into Marks by following the right sequence of questions is the key to JEE Main 2016

With just 20 days left for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2016, engineering aspirants are tapping in every effort to qualify for JEE Advanced.

PaGaLGuY spoke to Mr Vinay Kumar CEO, RAO IIT, about Time Management in the upcoming JEe Main examination. 'Time is Marks' is what he believes is the way forward while solving the JEE main exam. Here are some important tips from Mr Vinay Kumar for utilising every second and converting it into marks during the JEE Main exam.

It is traditionally observed in JEE Mains that Physics is a difficult section among the three sections. It is advised to follow a 3 step approach while attempting the paper. I would recommend the following.

Step 1:

Attempt the exam in a sequence. Chemistry being the easiest section and the most vast, it can be attempted first. However, Students who are extremely good in Maths can opt maths over Chemistry.

If you starting with Chemistry, follow it with Math, and then Physics.

Step 2:

Go thoroughly through the selected section- the section you have decided to attempt at any given time. Could be any of the three sections. Segregate the easy and the tough questions. Solve all the easy questions at first and do not waste your time on solving the difficult questions. Then move to the next section. Repeat the same steps and move to the final section.

Step 3:

Now after solving the easy questions and securing

(in your mind) a fixed percentage of marks, have a look at the questions that you find difficult. Traditionally there are around 20 to 25 tough questions which consume a lot of time. It is now that you have the time to tackle those difficult questions.

Section wise segregation

Chemistry: In this section there will be questions from Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. The questions pertaining to Organic Chemistry will be in a direct form. If one has thoroughly revised NCERT's, then they can answer these questions easily. There will be two to three questions in this section which will be tough to score. I advise the students not to attempt the question if one is not sure.

Mathematics: The most important section in Mathematics is Algebra. My advice to the students is to revise this part thoroughly. This part will discreetly have many questions on it. Priority in JEE Main should be given to Algebra, then

Calculus and then to Co-ordinates.

Physics: Normally there are around 5 to 8 questions which are considered out-of-the-box questions.

These are from the topics like Semiconductors, Optical Instruments, Errors and Measurements. The remaining 22 to 25 questions are in the area where the student should try to secure maximum marks.

There are around 69 to 75 questions out of 90 which can be solved under the easy tag. This enables a student to secure around 190 marks after assuming certain negative marks. Securing these numbers will ensure a candidate to rank among the first 20,000, and thus qualifying for JEE Advanced.

PaGaLGuY wishes all aspirants good luck for JEE Mains 2016.

Students can ask their doubts regarding the JEE exam 2016 in the Comments section below. We will get the experts to answer.

I

JEE Main 2016: IITians bring you 'Tip of the day'

This is the first in a series of articles giving last minute tips to JEE aspirants to efficiently crack the exam. Every day, PaGaLGuY will bring to you a tip of the day from first year IIT students sharing their experiences and mistakes of JEE 2015.

Rajat Harlalka, First year BTech, IIT Guwahati

JEE aspirants tend to study all night, as a result of which they feel lazy or lethargic in the mornings. My suggestion is to break this habit as the JEE Main exam is to be given at 9:30am. Students should attempt to solve JEE practice papers at 9:30 in the morning at least thrice a week. The idea is to train you brain to be the most productive and alert at the time of the day when JEE is scheduled. Another area where students should work on is creating a sheet of all the mistakes that they make while solving practice papers. Often students assume that the mistakes they make in practice solving are too silly and that will not be repeat during the main exam. However, even the silliest of mistakes can be replicated in the exam unknowingly. Listing all your mistakes during practice on a separate sheet will help you actively avoid them while writing the JEE Main paper. And finally, concepts that students feel confident about, should be not be omitted from revision at the last moment. There is no point starting to master a new concept in the last 20 days before the exam. This time is to practice what you already know than to exhaust your energy learning something new.

JEE 2016 aspirant speak (1)

In the coming days, PaGaLaGuY will bring to you what's on the JEE 2016 aspirants' minds

If you are an aspirant too, read on, might just help you fine tune your prep strategy. The first  of the lot, PaGaLGuY spoke to today, discussed Physics and the route to crack
