College Hamirpur
was, established in 1986 as a joint and cooperative enterprise
of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Himachal Pradesh. On 26 June 2002, REC
Hamirpur was awarded the status of deemed-to-be university and upgraded into an
NIT.

The campus is situated at Anu in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh and is 4 Kms from main bus stand of Hamirpur. The library has got the seating capacity of 100 readers in reading halls and 50 readers in Audio-Visual Hall. NIT Hamirpur has its own dedicated health centre for the better health care of its students and staff. The students are admitted to the NIT Hamirpur from all parts of the country. As per the admission policy of Govt. of India, 50% of the students are from the state of Himachal Pradesh, whereas the other 50% are from the other States. Institute provides hostel accommodation to all the students. There are six hostels in this institute. Five of them are for boys and one exclusively for girls. Each hostel has solar heating system, own recreation hall with badminton court and table tennis tables. There is a separate gym for the boys and girls. Internet is provided in every hostel room.

Admission to the graduate courses ie. B.Tech and B.Arch is via JEE. Master of Technology (M.Tech)programme was launched in 2005 and Master of Sustainable Architecture (M.ARCH), Doctor of Philosophy in 2006. The MBA programme began in 2009. Admissions to the M.Tech programmes is through GATE. 

Life beyond the classroom

HILL’FFAIR is the much anticipated cultural event of the institute. The rock show, fashion parade, and the Mr. and Miss Hill ‘Ffair competitions are some of the favourite shows. Nimbus is the Annual Technical Festival of NIT Hamirpur. The students run a literacy mission, Prayas to help the poor children residing around the campus.Some departmental clubs are Society For Promotion of Electronics Culture (SPEC), Society of Mechanical Engineers (SOME), Forum of Computer Engineers(FORCE).

Placement History

The B.Tech placements remain consistently good.
