It has always been prestigious for any country to be associated with big sports event like Olympics, World Cups , Commonwealth games etc. Hosting such events comes with pride, satisfaction, responsibility as well as huge financial burden.

Conducting such events have major impact on country’s economy , both in positive as well as negative ways. so it is essential for any developing country to weigh the consequences before hosting.

Whenever a country is hosting any such big events it is responsible for creating favorable conditions to accommodate various participants and visitors. When such a event is hosted by developing country there can be requirement of creating infrastructure from scratch which can impose a great deal of burden on governments budget. It may also require displacing people from their home to create space for new buildings.

So what attracts a country like India, who is already having a large account deficit and having huge chunk of population living below poverty line , who doesn’t have enough power production, or roads to provide every citizen a decent lifestyle to host such a large scale event ?

There is a bigger and better picture if we look it as long time investment for developing countries instead of economic burden. Usually host country is responsible for creating safer and standard sporting facilities, quality and quantity of roads , better public transportation as well as cleaner and greener environment, which in long run going to help the citizens only also creating this will generate a lot of employment.

Apart from these direct mentioned benefits it will also have many indirect benefits, people visiting from other countries are generally financially strong so they are expected to spend money in the country and it will also project country as the tourist destination and that positive impact will last far beyond the actual point.

Generally these benefits outweighs the negative burden that is why there is always such a fierce competition for hosting such sports events.
