NPC (National productivity Council) will conduct a competitive examination on behalf of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM) for the recruitment of Examiner of Patents and Designs. A huge number of candidates applied for a total of 220 vacancies in 2018. The selected candidates can be posted anywhere across the country in the offices of CGPDTM.

The Patent Examiner is responsible for the Patent applications for inventions and its own claims and recommends if the patent could be granted. The role of this office will be to process the applications in order to grant patents to promote and safeguard the inventions.

The CGPDTM exam will consist of two phases. Phase-I is the Preliminary Examination and Phase-II is the Mains Examination. Following are the details of both the phases in CGDTP 2018 exam:

The preliminary exam for 2018 was conducted on September 30, 2018. It was an OMR (Optical Mark Reader) based exam. It had 5 sections: General English, General Science, Verbal & Non- Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and GK & Current Affairs section. Each section had 30 questions with one mark each summing up to a total of 150 marks. The total time duration for prelims was 2 hours. The questions were of an objective type and were available in English and Hindi languages. The candidates should obtain the minimum cutoff marks fixed by the authority in order to get selected for the next round.  The candidates who were able to clear the Preliminary exam were selected for Mains Examination.

The admit card for Mains Examination was available from October 30, 2018. The exam was conducted on November 18, 2018. The qualified candidates attempted the Mains Exam successfully.

Mains exam was conducted in two stages. Paper-I was a descriptive test comprised of the concerned Discipline/ Subject as opted by the candidates. Both the Papers were conducted in offline mode. Paper-I will be a Scoring Examination with 300 marks in total. The candidates were provided with Answer Booklet containing sufficient pages to answer the questions.  Paper-II will be English Proficiency test comprising of testing the candidates’ ability in English Writing, Power of Expression & Report Writing Skills/ Ability. This paper will be a qualifying examination with 100 marks in total. The evaluation of Paper-I exam will be done for the candidates who qualify in the paper-II which is of qualifying nature.

The final merit list for shortlisting the candidates appeared for the Mains exam will be out of 300 marks in the Mains Examination. This will be the final stage in the selection of the candidates for the job.

The results for the recruitment of CGPDTM exam will be available on the official website soon. The selected candidates’ name and roll number will be published on the official website.

Steps to check the CGPDTM results:

  • Firstly, open the CGPDTM official website
  • Click on the Result option that will be available on the home page of the website
  • A new page will get open
  • Click on the CGPDTM Mains Exam result option
  • Fill your Roll number and date of birth in the required area and then click the submit button
  • The result will appear on the screen

The candidate’s whose Name and Roll number is present in the merit list will be declared as qualified in the exam. The candidates can also take a print copy of the result page for future reference.
