CAT 2022 Exam Review – Student Feedback

After taking one of the most awaited entrance exams, CAT 2022, I found the slot 1 paper fairly moderate. Starting with the VARC section that consisted of four reading comprehensions and a new kind of ‘fill in the blank’ question, it can be concluded that the section was moderate with 2 easy and 2 tough RCs. The following section was the DILR section which was the toughest of the lot, with all of the questions on logical reasoning. Finally, the Quantitative Ability section was easy, with a pattern similar to CAT 2021.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS after slot 1

A. VARC – Moderate. 24Q

Had 4 passages with 4 questions, 8 VA questions …reasonably moderate passages, except one on tech.

VA had paragraph-sentence filler questions “where will you place a particular sentence”.

3 RCs easy (Supernatural, Stoicism, Western Chinese forgery type) one on the tech a little dif

B. LRDI, A little tougher

4 sets of 5Qs each.

A. Tournament and goal one were moderate.

B. interviewer-tokens was tough (avoid in the first round)

C. Metro tracks – calculation intensive – yet easy

D. Boys/girls picnic is reasonably easy

You must be able to do 2+ sets, about 12-13 attemptable.

C. Quant – has been easy this time…22Q.

Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and modern math too

Arithmetic was easy, approx 12 questions.

Geometry – had 4 questions, all doable.

Modern Math – 1 Venn diagram question of mod difficulty.

Algebra was also doable..

If you do not get stuck, then people have been able to attempt 17-18, 13-14 easily.

99%ile will be around 98 score

VARC – 38-40

LRDI – 28-30

Quant – 36-38

99.5%ile about 110

Ravi Dawda, CAT 2022 Exam Taker & CAT Expert

Slot 2 felt like the most challenging Slot VARC was not just difficult to comprehend, but the options were so close that it became nearly impossible to stick to one and mark with certainty. I kept going in rounds and still needed help to reach a conclusive answer or crack the sets entirely. I could personally attempt just 9 questions hoping for 8 to be correct.

The QA section of this paper felt shocking; there were negligible questions about Arithmetic, and it had more weightage on Algebra. This was new to me since, usually, they are a good number of questions focusing just on Arithmetic. Someone who prepared for QA following the pattern of previous years and focused more on Arithmetic would’ve faced a great deal of difficulty here.

Slot 3 Insight: The paper was a mixture of difficulty levels. With a calm focus and a constant presence of mind, it was easy to locate the precise questions, which were at an easy to moderate difficulty level. Section-wise, VARC was comprehendible with respect to the questions, but the options posed needed to be clarified. Elimination became difficult in VA. DILR had one easy and three moderate to difficult sets. DI for the section was extremely easy to get through, but LR needed clarification and could throw you in an inevitable loop if not done carefully. QA was comparatively easier but had questions that needed time to solve; they were lengthy. But 11-12 questions could’ve been easily done in QA with 100% accuracy.
