The Madras High Court (HC) dismissed the appeal of Tamil Nadu Government to reserve 85% seats for state board students, and remaining 15% for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other board candidates. The Tamil Nadu Government is likely to challenge the order in the Supreme Court.

The appeal was dismissed by the bench comprising of Justice Nooty Ramamohan Rao and Justice M Dhandpani, and they have asked the Tamil Nadu Government to conduct the medical admissions without further delay. Initially, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 counselling was scheduled to begin from July 17, 2017.

The government order was first challenged on July 14, 2017 in the Madras HC by a CBSE student, Darnish Kumar, through his parents, and advocate L Muralikrishnan.
