When Sourav Yadav’s father got posted in Jammu & Kashmir, his mother decided to shift to Kota from Haryana leaving behind her job for better studies options for her son. Sourav didn’t disappoint them. He scored 330 marks out of 366 in JEE Advanced 2017 and secured All India Rank (AIR) 6.

Hailing from a small town in Bhiwani district, Haryana, Sourav got to know about engineering when he came to Kota. During his secondary (Class 10) examination he enrolled in the Resonance Coaching institute, Kota. His mother was keen on providing better education for her son and left her job as a school teacher in Haryana to accompany him for his studies. “My father doesn’t get much time to accompany us as he is posted in Jammu & Kashmir where tension escalates every now and then. My mother was the strongest pillar of my success in JEE Advanced 2017,” said Sourav. The intelligent lad loves home-cooked food and staying away from his mother’s ‘Haath ka Khana‘ was too difficult for him. His mother, being a mother, knew that and decided to sacrifice her career for the better future of her son.

Sourav wants to take up Computer Science in IIT Bombay, which is a dream institute for any IIT aspirant. He is fond of video games and application software, and is interested in developing his own apps and software for the people. “I would like to learn the nuances of Computer Science and develop something on my own. The urge to take up Computer Science as a career option came to me while I saw my maternal uncle, who is a software engineer working on interesting projects. He motivated me to take up engineering as well,” informed Sourav.

Although, Sourabh had secured AIR 108 in JEE Main, he never gave prominence to rankings as such. “I was concerned about the percentage marks I score in any examination. Ranks will follow it’s course. By doing that I have always remained immune from the extra pressure that students often take while writing an important exam,” said Sourav.

Topping one of the toughest entrance examination in the country came naturally to this youngster as he was preparing for the advance level exam even before JEE Mains. “I prepared myself from the very beginning for JEE Advanced. I used to self-analyse my problem areas and work on those from time to time,” concluded Sourav.
