Calcutta University Campus Facility

Calcutta University has been ranked 5th among the universities in India. The university conducted various courses in a total of 14 campuses spread all over the city Kolkata. The main or central campus of this university, the Ashutosh Shiksha Prangan is located at College Street, Kolkata covers an area of 2.7 acres.

The huge area is full of greenery, which offers pure and peaceful environment ideal for educational purposes. Though the university is located in one of the busiest city of India, the huge campus does not allow the noise of the city to hamper the environment of the university. 

The library of this main campus contains a rich collection over 10,00,000 books along with around two lakh volumes of bound journals, proceedings of conferences, patents, standards, M.Phil. and PhD dissertations, reports, newspapers, microfilms, maps, manuscripts, CD-ROMs.

The university has a total of 39 departmental libraries. The university provides accommodation to nearly 1550 students in 16 hostels, separate for girls and boys.

The university campus is designed with Cricket Ground, Football Ground, Volleyball Courts and Athletics Tracks for activity purposes and for learning purposes several laboratories, such as Man-Machine Interface Lab, Seed Science Technology Lab and Agriculture Soil Chemistry Lab.

Speaking of the location of the university, College Street is Asia’s largest book market. It is believed that if the book can not be found in College Street then that book does not exist in the world. Surrounded by many heritage food junctions like Bosonto Cabin, Anadi Cabin and the famous Indian Coffee house, it is a heritage place to the Calcuttians. 

Rest of the campuses are Rashbihari Siksha Prangan popularly known as Rajabajar Science College at Rajabajar, Taraknath Siksha Prangan known as Ballygunge Science College at Ballygunge Circular Road, Sahid Khudiram Siksha Prangan at Alipore, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy Siksha Prangan, the Technology Campus University of Calcutta at sector 3 Salt Lake.
