The institute provides merit-based or merit-cum-need awards to students as follows:

For First Degree (FD) students:

  • Each year, approximately 30% of students enrolled in First Degree Programs are granted semester tuition fee waivers ranging from 15% to 100% in the form of either merit or merit-cum-need scholarships. a) All awards are granted for one semester only, and their continuation in subsequent semesters depends on the candidate’s performance and financial situation. b) About 50% of full-time Ph.D. students without any other financial assistance receive a monthly stipend of up to Rs. 31,000/- as an assistantship, involving 8 – 10 hours per week in teaching/research or administration duties. The decision on these awards/stipends is made based on the institute’s pre-defined procedure and is not contingent upon nationally conducted tests like GATE, GPAT, etc.

Students enrolled in higher degree programs and Ph.D. are also recommended for scholarships/fellowships from various sources such as UGC, CSIR, DST, DBT, ICMR, etc. These scholarships are administered in accordance with the regulations specified by the awarding authorities. Those qualified in GATE may apply for the GATE scholarship through the UGC, with the Institute forwarding such applications. However, the decision regarding the award of GATE/GPAT scholarship lies with the UGC, based on its existing norms.
