If the above headline makes sense, you obviously are an ‘SMS’ fanatic. Good to know that you have a vibrant network of friends but please, can you refrain from using the i and the de in your articles.
I know that typing an I requires a wee bit more of an effort, so also de for the – but take the effort. This is one big reason why fewer articles are getting Recommended on the PaGaLguY Channel pages these days. An increasing number of authors are using SMS language while writing articles. If you do not see such ‘short-form’ words in other publications, (be it books, newspaper or television channels) then why subject others to the torture of reading your articles with them.
Channels is a place to write articles and also read and reading 1,000 words of SMS language is quite a task. Other silly issues that differentiate a ‘latest’ article from a ‘recommended’ one are:
1. Even if you love dots, do not use more than 3 dots (…) if you trying to talk about something unstated. The usage is only 3 dots (called Ellipis) and not more and is used when something is left out or the thought is not clear or the writer does not wish to complete or make it specific.
2. Definitely keep a space when you end a sentence and start another. Does this make easy reading.That there is no space between the two sentences. No, it does not.
3. Decide if you want to use double or single inverted commas and whatever you use, stick to it. There’s no rule about which to use but single inverted commas are generally used in British English and double in American English. Usually, double inverted commas are used to say something important or for quotes.
4. Be bold with a little caution. Don’t make too many words bold – it is difficult to read. Same with CAPITAL letters. ‘All CAPITAL’ letters are used to stress on something. It is daunting task to read an article with too many words in all CAPS.
5. Use the exclamation mark (!) sparingly. Agree that everything in your article requires attention but too many !!! can be quite irritating.
6. Lastly, take some time and write and when you want to say ‘and’ and not &. The & will never get you anywhere, certainly not to the ‘recommended’ pages.
