Have you ever wondered what would Gandhijis CAT/GMAT score have been?

It is known that effective leadership requires emotional and creative intelligence more than reasoning and verbal abilities. Every individual has unique capabilities and strengths and possesses multiple intelligences. A leader should not only have good analytical capabilities but also have high Influencing Skills backed by traits such as Assertiveness, Resilience, Risk Taking etc., have qualities such as Gregariousness, Empathy, Accommodation etc. which are important for Managing Relationships and should have high Problem Solving/Decision Making Traits such as Idea Orientation, Abstract Reasoning, Thoroughness etc.

This implies that the modern day b-school selection process should not only focus on IQ but also on measuring EQ (Emotional Quotient), SQ (Spiritual Quotient), AQ (Adversity Quotient) and CQ (Character Quotient). Most of the popular exams today do not measure these dimensions. Business schools should therefore adopt tools that measure empathy and creativity besides many other leadership aspects.

SOIL has identified this gap and developed a rolling admission process which is unique and measures the qualities which are required to become a leader. The remarkable aspect of this process is that it gives the applicant a deeper understanding of self.

Following are the steps of selection process for SOIL:

  1. Online Application
  2. Caliper Profile Assessment
  3. Shortlisted Candidates submit answers to 5 Essay Questions and 2 Recommendations
  4. Talent Appreciation Process (TAP)

Caliper Profile Assessment

SOIL uses a unique tool developed by the ‘Caliper Corporation; this tool evaluates an individuals multiple intelligences and leadership potential. The Caliper Profile is the instrument chosen by SOIL to give insights into an individuals characteristics, potential and motivation, to develop an objective perspective on an applicants strengths and areas for development. The effectiveness of the Caliper Profile stems from the validity and accuracy of the instrument, as well as Calipers unequalled database of information about top performers in leadership roles in every part of the world.

Submission of Essays & Recommendations

Prior to the T.A.P., applicants need to submit answers to 5 essay questions and submit 2 recommendations. Thought provoking and self-introspective questions are asked, this helps the candidate to understand his dreams and aspirations in the long term and in turn helps us at SOIL to understand the same Eg – If you had all the time and resources in the world, what would you like to create and why.

Talent Appreciation Process (T.A.P.)

The last but the most important part is the talent appreciation interview. This is done by a senior leader from SOILs industry consortium (co-creators of SOIL) and one faculty member. They spend time with the aspirant in trying to find out his/her strengths and uniqueness. The focus in on strengths and not weaknesses of the candidate. Understanding the candidates goals in life, his/her priorities and why they want to study further are some important areas covered in the interview.

SOIL conducts the T.A.P. across the cities of Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Delhi (NCR).

All of these steps help SOIL understand the candidate better and form the basis of the opening week at SOIL. During this time, SOIL again conducts an in depth exercise to find out the kind of careers best suited for the student, keeping in mind his/her interests. This helps develop a very focused individual learning and development plan customized for each student. This forms the basis of the individual mentoring process throughout the year.

The admissions process at SOIL is unique and tries to explore the individuals potential. In totality this process is the first step towards the journey of self discovery at SOIL.
