National Institute of Technology, Goa

The National Institute of Technology Goa (also known as NIT Goa or NITG) was set up, using Rs 250 crore provided by central government, in 2010. The first batch of students was admitted in the year 2010-11. During its initial years, NIT Goa was mentored by National Institute of Technology, Surathkal.

The Goa State Government had proposed that 50% of the seats in this Institute should be reserved for State of Goa but the Union HRD ministry wanted Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Lakshwadweep students to be grouped with Goa students for the 50% reservation. After the locals opposed the idea, the Government of India agreed to 50% reservation exclusively for the state of Goa. The temporary campus is located in the Goa Engineering College (GEC) Campus Farmagudi, Ponda approximately 29 km southeast of Panaji, capital of Goa. The permanent campus is to come up in an area of 300 acres, spanning from Cuncolim to Balli.

A three storey building inside the Goa Engineering College (GEC) campus has been renovated with various classrooms, laboratories, administrative section and a conference hall. Each classroom, laboratory and conference hall possess facilities such as multimedia projectors and internet.
