The SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) was established in 1988 and was given statutory powers from January 30, 1992, through the SEBI Act 1992. SEBI is the supervisory body for the securities market in India. It has released the notification for 2018 for the posts of Officer Grade A (Assistant Manager) with a total of 120 vacancies in various streams like General, Legal, Engineering (Civil & Electrical) and IT.

The selection process for SEBI Grade A consists of 3 phases. They are as follows:

Phase I- Online Examination:

The Phase I process was conducted on November 17, 2018. Phase I is an online examination with total time duration of 2 hours. It consists of multiple choice questions for 200 marks. This phase has questions relating to General, Legal, and Engineering and Information Technology stream. The exam has 5 sections. They are English language, Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and questions relating to Awareness about Securities market with 40 questions each. Each question carries 1 mark and hence summing up to a total of 200 marks. The candidates who have secured the minimum marks as fixed by the authority in each section will be allowed to appear for the Phase II exam. The marks secured by the candidates in Phase I will not be taken into account for the final selection process.

Phase II- Online Examination:

The Phase II exam was also an online examination and it was held on December 16, 2018. The paper had 3 sections with separate time duration for each section. The questions were from 2 streams General with 3 Papers and Legal, IT and Engineering.

General Stream: In this stream, each section had 100 questions with 1 mark each and so summing up to a total of 300 marks. Paper-I was Securities Market for 40 minutes time duration, Paper II English (Writing Skills) with 60 minutes time duration and Paper III Economic & Social Issues and Finance & Management for a time duration of 40 minutes.

Legal/ IT/ Engineering Stream: It had 3 papers for 100 marks each summing up to a total of 300 marks. Paper I was Financial Sector for 40 minutes time duration, Paper II was English Writing Skills with 60 minutes time duration and Paper III Specialized subject related to the stream for a time duration of 40 minutes.

The candidates shortlisted for the final i.e. the Interview Process will be announced in the Official Website of the SEBI soon. In both the Phases except the English Language section, the other sections will have questions in both Hindi and English (bilingual).

Phase III- Interview Process:

Phase III is the final process for the recruitment of Grade “A” officers in SEBI for 2018. The candidates shortlisted in Phase II will be called for the Interview Process in SEBI. The application process will not be refunded to the candidates who have not been selected for the Interview conducted by the SEBI.

The candidates can decide on the language for Interview Process either Hindi or English. The weight-age of marks scored in the Phase II exam will be 85% and the Interview Process will be given a Weight-age of 15%. By clearing the cutoffs fixed by SEBI section- wise, the candidates will be shortlisted for the Interview Process. SEBI has the right to do modifications in the selection procedure if deemed fit.
