QS has most recently added another scholarship to its extensive list of scholarships for students. Please tell us about this exclusive scholarship by QS for the iGLEMBA program at UT Dallas.

What were the reasons for QS to choose this programme for the Scholarship?

The new iGLEMBA at UT Dallas is a unique program that draws on experience and mentorship from Fortune 50 companies from across the US. As a 12 month intensive study program, it offers students the chance to work with representatives from these companies on a day-to-day basis as well as visit them as part of study trip across the US: to Silicon Valley, to New York and to Washington DC. With such a large focus on employability and developing students to be ready for the workplace, we were happy to work with UT Dallas to promote a program such as this.

What is the criteria for the scholarship? Are Indian Students eligible for this scholarship?

Indian students are eligible for the scholarships that are available – however time is running out to apply. In order to be eligible, students must have 4+ years of work experience, and a desire to study for 12 months at a top US program. GMAT or GRE score are not factored in to the scholarship decision, however the school does look at your work experience and your objectives for pursuing an MBA.

How many students will be awarded with the scholarship and what would be the amount of the scholarship?

There will be 30 scholarships available for Indian students, all of which offer up to 50% of the tuition fee as scholarship.

What is the deadline for the Scholarship application?

For the UT Dallas scholarship the deadline is tight – March 10th!! Program study starts in May 2014 and so it is important that students take this opportunity now!

QS and the partner university/school granted $1.2 Million and above scholarships last year. How many applications would QS receive for these scholarships? How are they evaluated?

Yes, we offered USD 1.2 Million in exclusive scholarships last year and this year we have increased the fund to USD 1.7 Million to encourage candidates to pursue their academic dreams. These scholarships are available only to the attendees of the events (QS World MBA Tour and QS World Grad School Tour) or unless we run a special case like we are currently for the UT Dallas program. In general, candidates need to complete the QS Applicant survey once they have attended the event, post which, they get access to all the scholarships on our system with an essay topic. Our scholarships are essay based and to keep our approach very unbiased, we mask the identity of the candidate with a number till the time the final decision is made. Candidates need to have an offer to a B-School for us to process the final stage of the application. Each year we get approximately 5,000 applications from around the world, which in my mind is a very small pool to compete with so it’s definitely worth applying for everyone reading this.

Your advice to the students preparing for the scholarship application.

In general about scholarships, keep the deadlines in mind, always apply for as many relevant scholarships as possible but keep the approach very clear and make a separate application for each scholarship. It is like an admissions application. The ones who assess these applications go through 100’s of applications daily so they will catch things very quickly. Be to the point and stay within given word count.
