The governments also just to remain in power preferred an easy route of vote bank politics rather than developing and empowering people to make good decisions. The UPA-2 went one step even further and took it to the peak when it started appealing to particular communities of people especially minorities giving them more than enough reservation in colleges and jobs instead of good education, granting them with reservation even in promotion of govt. jobs rather than enabling them to get promotions on their own and also the recently proposed minority bill. The food security bill is no less which was implemented as ordinance without proper required infrastructure in place. The govt. started believing that these casuistry schemes would translate into votes as opposed to economic reforms or infrastructure development.

I am glad that people of the 4 states proved them altogether wrong. The polls’ results corroborated that people now have risen above caste and religion lines and have voted for the best according to their intellect considering welfare of the nation as a whole. Even in the rural areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh where caste, religion, money were very influential factors till last elections were missing this time. The only criteria on the basis of which people have made their decision is governance.

Now as the general election nears people are again looking for the alternative. The trend of the yesterday’s results indicate an integrated and strong alternative would be available. The need is to identify it and help give it at least one chance to form government with as much majority as possible. If it doesn’t happen and again a coalition comes to power then the effect would be only 50%-60% of the effect possible from coming in power with majority, the strong looking opposition would again be at the mercy of provincial parties, inability to reach the consensus would increase and after five years again looking for a new alternative.
