Extracting the sincere, true and the fair message from the ballot paper, more precisely the EVM, has been the agenda and the basis for electoral democracy. The not so recent, SC’s order to install “none of the above” option on the EVMs has revamped the Indian Election scenario becoming the true representative of the Voter’s collective will.

Having parties with no clean records in almost every department, the voter’s dilemma is to choose the least worst of all. Being bound to these poor choices, the count of people voting has never been near to cent percent. So this is seen as a message to the political parties that aim not to win but to defeat the rival. This also brings up the hope of increase in the number of voters.

Now that the political parties cannot take the voters for granted, they will be forced to prove their mettle and stay out of demeanor; which would further be an impetus to the corruption free India we seek.

But every coin has the other side and the other shoe always drops when you least expect it to! This may be used as a political strategy to not let the rival win or for getting by-elections or re-elections! Since it has always been, our political parties have showed uncanny ability in molding every rule/loophole to their benefit. This judicial creativism’s success will be determined by the voters whose best interests have been the concern and the foundation on which the NOTA stands.
