MICANVAS, now into its seventh edition, has gone global for the first time ever, with participants from foreign universities. The theme for this year’s edition was ‘The Third Awakening: Brand India Resonates’ alluding to that after Independence and liberalisation, India was becoming a global power.

The day began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by an engrossing panel discussion on the theme by Hemant Sachdev (Marketing Director, Bharti Ent.), Santosh Desai (CEO, Future Brands), Padmasree Shovana Narayan (renowned Kathak artiste) and Prof Shiv Viswanath (Social Scientist and philosopher). The discussion revolved around the various aspects of the theme – from a corporate as well as social point of view. There were debates, with active audience interaction, on the concept of branding for India, the social ramifications, the advantages, etc. Prof. Vishwanath talked about how the communications managers of tomorrow could influence this concept of branding the country, responsibly and ethically.

Following the panel discussion was the international day conclave, Colloquium, in which participants had to present an Integrated Marketing Plan for Brand India.Nanyang Technological University, Singapore won the event and ESCEM, France were the runners-up.

The day concluded with a dance performance by Padmashree Shovana Narayan that enthralled the audience. The international participants, in particular, found this a new experience and enjoyed the event. The performance was composed especially for MICANVAS by the artiste.
