Dear Students,

The JEE Main 2015 offline Paper I is scheduled to be held on 4th April, 2015. For a large number of students, performance in this paper would determine whether they are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2015 – the gateway to their dream destination, namely, the IITs.

With this paper just around the corner, you must be wondering about the likely cutoff score in JEE Main 2015 for being eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced 2015. In this article, we will look at the expected cutoff score in JEE Main 2015.

Before we discuss the likely cutoff for 2015, let us take a quick look at the cutoffs for JEE Main 2013 and JEE Main 2014. Both these JEE Mains papers comprised a total of 90 questions, with 30 questions each from Physics, Chemistry and Maths subjects. Each correct answer was worth 4 marks and there was a penalty of 1 mark for every wrong answer (-1 for every wrong answer). Thus, the maximum score possible in JEE Main 2013 and in JEE Main 2014 was 360.

In JEE Main 2013, the cutoff score for eligibility to appear in JEE Advanced 2013 was 113 for General category candidates, 70 for OBC, 50 for SC and 45 for ST category candidates. Similarly, in JEE Main 2014, the cutoff score for eligibility to appear in JEE Advanced 2014 was 115 for General category candidates, 74 for OBC, 53 for SC and 47 for ST category candidates. Thus, there was a slight upward trend in the cutoff from JEE Main 2013 to JEE Main 2014.

Keeping this trend in mind, we can reasonably estimate that in JEE Main 2015, the cutoff score for eligibility to appear in JEE Advanced 2015 should be around 118-120 for General category candidates, 75-77 for OBC, 55-57 for SC and 50 to 53 for ST category candidates. Unless there is a drastic change in the nature of the paper, the cutoff is likely to hover in this range.

Now, in order to be on the safe side, General category candidates should ideally target a score of 125-130 + in this paper in order to be completely confident of clearing the cutoff. Similarly, OBC category candidates should target a score of 80-85 +, SC category candidates should target 60-65 + and ST category candidates should target a score of 55-60 +.

Now that you know the likely cutoff score in JEE Main 2015, you can plan out your strategy for this exam and secure your eligibility for JEE Advanced 2015.

All the Best!
