The Indian Institute
of Technology, Mandi

IIT Mandi came into being in 2008 following the The Institutes of
Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011and began its functions out of the transit campus at Government Post
graduate College, Mandi. The historic town Mandi is 12 km away.

The location for the
permanent campus is the forested hills of Kamand on the banks of the Uhl, a
tributary of River Beas. The laying of the foundation stone at Kamand took
place on 24 February 2009. IIT Mandi is the first of the new IITs to use its
own campus. The permanent campus is set in 565 acres of pristine land and offers
a world-class academic environment with a high quality of life in a setting of
natural splendour. The amenities include modern classrooms, labs and libraries,
sports and extra-curricular facilities, on-campus housing for all faculty and
students, guest houses for visitors, a shopping centre, and a school.
 There are plans to make a 2 MW SHP station to utilise the water resources
of the nala which flows through the campus.

A scholarship will be provided to all female students
admitted to first year B.Tech. The scholarship will carry free boarding and
lodging plus a stipend of Rs. 1,000 per month for 10 months. Female students of
only Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering receive this scholarship
in the second year.

Academic
Programs at IIT Mandi

Like all the other IITs,
admissions to these programs are done on the basis of merit list of JEE
Main and advanced.

Currently, IIT Mandi offers Bachelor
of Technology (B.Tech.) programs in the following three disciplines:Electrical
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering

Currently, the institute offers M.S. program in
fields of basic sciences and engineering, M.Sc. program in Chemistry and
M.Tech. in Energy Materials.

Ph.D. program in the field of engineering and
basic sciences are also offered.

four schools operational in IIT Mandi.

Extra-curricular activities

Exodia is the annual technical cum cultural fest of IIT Mandi. It
is a three-day long event held towards in the beginning of March. Rann-Neeti is the Annual Inter College
Sports Fest, it is a three day long event held every year in the month of
September.

The Technical Society
includes Energy club, Electronics club, Programming Club, Astronomy Club,
Robotics Club, etc and Cultural Society
include Music club, Choreography club, Dramatics club etc. Various other clubs
also exist for the students to participate in. Sports activities like Football,
Cricket, Badminton, Lawn Tennis (proposed), Badminton, Table Tennis,
Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey, Athletics, Chess and Swimming are also conducted.

Placement
data at IIT Mandi

Despite being one of the newer IITs, IIT Mandi
has taken off on a strong note in the placement scene. 

In the first week of placements in December
2014, 60% of the 120-strong batch at IIT Mandi had already been placed across
16 companies. IIT Mandi was the only new IIT to achieve 100% placements in
2012.
