Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad
The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A) was established in 1999, as a center of excellence in Information Technology and allied areas. The institute was conferred “Deemed University” status by Govt. of India in the year 2000.
The 100 acre campus, situated at Deoghat, Jhalwa has beautifully landscaped gardens. The campus includes three computer centers with six labs each, 16 lecture halls, electronics library and residential facilities for students and faculty. An open air theater, stadium and recreational facilities are also available on campus. Sports field, basketball and tennis courts as well as a Student Activity Center that houses facilities for indoor games and musical pursuits along with the gymnasium. A swimming pool has also been constructed. There is a health center, shopping complex and a cafeteria on the campus. Banking and postal facilities are also available inside the campus. The residential campus consists of four boys’ hostels and three girls’ hostels. There are three visitor hostels (guest houses) and 2 hostels for Married scholars. One new boys’ hostel is under construction.
Studying at IIIT-A
IIIT-A offers a B.Tech degree in either Information Technology or Electronics and Communications Engineering.5 Years long B.TECH-MTECH Dual Programs in IT and ECE MTECH Biomedical Engineering. Admission to all these programmes is through JEE-MAIN.
Three postgraduate programmes are offered, MBA in Information Technology (MBA-IT), M.Tech in BIOMEDICAL Engineering, M.Tech in Information Technology, and an integrated M.Tech in Bio-Medical Engineering. Admission to the MBA-IT programme is based on CAT scores and an entrance test, interview & group discussion. Admission to the MS-CLIS program is based on an entrance test and an interview. Admission to the M.Tech programme is based on Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scores and on a written test or interview. IIIT-A foreign students are accepted based on SAT II scores.
Students can enroll in the research Doctoral Programme (awarding a Ph.D) after either completing a B.Tech degree or an M.Tech one.
Student projects are mandatory for all students under the guidance of specialist faculties, often in collaboration with the industry.
More than just studies
Effervescence is the annual three-day-long cultural festival of IIIT-A. Aparoksha is the technical festival. The International Science conclave is an interaction program of Nobel Laureates and eminent national and international academicians, scientists, technologists and industrialists with students. GeekHaven, Robita, Thunderbolt, Stambh, Virtuosi, etc are some of the other clubs at the institute. The institute also has an annual sports meet called Asmita.
Placements
During the placement session 2012-2013, 100% of the
students were placed with 75% of them having been placed in Dream Jobs
(package above 5 lpa). The highest Package was 65 lakhs per annum. The average
package is 6.6 lakhs per annum.
