The opening panel debate, aGreen Business and Green Values: the Issues a, will be chaired by Dr Noreena Hertz, CIBAMas Associate Director and an expert on economic globalization. Panelists representing government and retail on the first day include Mr David Roth, CEO The Store and The WPP Group, Mr Khalid Abdulla Janahi, CEO Dar-al-Maal al Islami Trust and Mr Brian Titley, Director of Performance and Evaluation, BERR.

The panel will consider the aBusiness of doing good businessa; how in this climate of economic downturn, businesses must not allow the pursuit of ethical practices to become a victim of the recession. They will analyze how businesses will now, more than ever, need to demonstrate leadership and put forward models and solutions for sustainable development. The panel will also look at the need for government and NGOs to be involved in this process, as true partners, in order for it to be successfully delivered and to assist with the transition to a carbon-constrained economy.

The panel sessions on the Friday will consider the aThe Sustainability Challengesa, including looking at re-thinking the role of markets and the real implications of sustainability for all businesses, followed by aSolutions1: Businessa and aSolutions 2: Government, NGOs and Academiaa. Panelists will discuss what actually determines greenness, the market disruption it will drive and the opportunities for innovation it will create, and how society needs to be engaged with the future agenda of target setting and delivery.
