Chennai-based Great Lakes Institute of Management, which offers a one-year PGPM for experienced candidates completed its placements for the batch of 2010-11. The PGPM Class of 2011 comprised 296 students with work experience ranging from 20 months to 81 months. A total of 121 companies participated in the placements and offered a variety of roles.

The average salary of the PGPM class was Rs 9.45 lakhs per annum while the median salary was Rs 9.2 lakhs per annum. The highest salary was Rs 24 lakhs offered by an USA-based management consulting firm. According to the institute, the post-MBA average salary was 133% of the average pre-MBA salary of the batch.

Three students opted out of the placements. According to Great Lakes, the reasons were either joining their family businesses or taking a break before embarking into corporate life.

The highest number of offers was made by companies from Consulting, Technology and Sales & Marketing.

Sales & Marketing

Godrej Consumer, Symrise (FMCG), Mahindra Holidays (Travel and Tourism), Yes Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank (BFSI), Edserv, Everonn, Global Scholar, Manipal Education (Education) and Puma (Retail) and HIRCO (Infrastructure). 52 students got jobs in Sales & Marketing with the highest salary offered being Rs 16 lakhs.

Consulting

The major recruiters were ZS Associates, Deloitte, PwC, Ernst and Young, Cognizant Business Consulting, Universal Consulting and Accenture. 78 students got jobs in consulting roles with the highest salary offered being Rs 24 lakhs.

Technology

IT majors such as Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL, Mindtree, Mahindra Satyam visited Great Lakes this year. The highest salary offered was Rs 14 lakhs.

Operations

Companies such as L&T; Engineering, Robert Bosch, Tecpro Systems, Zuari Group and TVS Motors were among the many recruiters for Operations and Product Management roles. Yes Bank also recruited for an operations role. The highest salary offered was Rs 12.5 lakhs.

Finance

Some of the major recruiters for the finance students of Great Lakes were UBS, Wealth Advisors India, Vista Soft, Spark Capital, Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank. Roles varied across Wealth Management, Fixed Income Securities, Securities Trading, Corporate Banking, Equity Research and Institutional Investments. The highest salary offered was Rs 12 lakhs.

General Management and Business Analytics

IBM Analytics, IMRB, RAMCO Systems were some of the major companies that recruited students for Analytics and Business Research roles. Other general management roles were offered by companies such as Hospira Healthcare, SunEdison. The highest salary offered in general management roles was Rs 10.7 lakhs.

The consulting sector was the highest payer while advertising/media companies paid the lowest.
