In our previous articles on the Engineering Services Examination, we have already discussed the scheme, syllabus and process of this exam, among other things. In this article, let us look at the list of services/ posts to which recruitment is made following the selection of candidates through this exam.

The candidates selected through this exam serve as Assistant Executive Engineers in a Government of India organisation. Following this, candidates may be promoted to the post of Executive Engineer (after three to four years of experience). Those who serve for more than twenty years may be promoted to the post of Chief Engineer level-1. Engineers with experience of more than 32 years may be posted as Secretary to the Government of India.

As per the 2015 Engineering Exam notification, candidates selected through this exam would get one of the following posts/ services:

I. Candidates with specialisation in Civil Engineering

(Group ‘A’ Services/Posts)

1. Indian Railway Service of Engineers.

2. Indian Railway Stores Services (Civil Engineering Posts). 

3. Central Engineering Service. 

4. Indian Defence Service of Engineers (Civil Engineering Posts). 

5. Indian Ordinance Factories Services. AWM/JTS (Civil Engg. Posts).

6. Central Engineering Service (Roads) Group-A. (Civil Engg. Posts).

7. Asst. Executive Engineer (Civil) P & T Building Works Gr. ‘A’ Service.

8. Assistant Executive Engineer (QS & C) in Military Engineer Service (MES) Surveyor Cadre. 

II. Candidates with specialisation in Mechanical Engineering

(Group ‘A’ Services/Posts)

1. Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers.
2. Indian Railway Stores Service (Mechanical Engineering Posts). Central Power Engineering 

3. Service Group ‘A’ (Mechanical Engineering Posts). 

4. Indian Ordnance Factories Service. AWM/JTS (Mechanical Engineering Post) 

5. Indian Naval Armament Service (Mechanical Engineering Posts).
6. Assistant Executive Engineer Group ‘A’ (Mech. Engg. Posts) in the corps of EME, Ministry of Defence.
7. Central Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Service (Mechanical Engineering Posts).
8. Indian Defence Service of Engineers (Mechanical Engineering posts).

III. Candidates with specialisation in Electrical Engineering

(Group ‘A’ Services/Posts)

1. Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers.
2. Indian Railway Stores Service (Electrical Engineering Posts).
3. Central Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Service (Electrical Engg. Posts).
4. Indian Naval Armament Service (Electrical Engineering Posts).
5. Indian Ordnance Factories Service. AWM/JTS (Electrical Engineering Post).
6. Central Power Engineering Service (Electrical Engineering Posts).
7. Indian Defence Service of Engineers (Electrical Engineering Posts).
8. Assistant Executive Engineer Gr. ‘A’ (Electrical Engineering Posts) in Corps of EME, Min of Defence.

IV. Candidates with specialisation in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

(Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ Posts)

1. Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers.
2. Indian Railway Stores Service (Telecommunication/ Electronics Engineering Posts).
3. Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts).
4. Assistant Executive Engineer Group ‘A’ (Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Posts) in the Corps of E.M.E., Ministry of Defence.
5. Central Power Engg. Service,  Group ‘A’ [Electronics and Tele- communication Engg. Service].
6. Indian Inspection Service (Asst. Dir. Grade-I).
7. Indian Telecommunication Service Gr. ‘A’.
8. Junior Telecom Officer [General  Central Service Group ‘B’ Gazetted Non- Ministerial].
