“The workshop was a concrete step taken by the two organizations for promoting and educating the masses in the use of electricity and saving,” the school’s release quoted Mr. Devender Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India as saying.

He further added that Indian industries consumed 44 pc of commercial energy while adding only 26 pc to GDP. The government had identified nine major power consuming industries and is focusing on achieving energy efficiency in them. A National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency has been established to promote efficiency.

“Haryana has a scope of saving 25 pc of its power consumption in various sectors like agriculture, industrial and commercial, thus increasing capacity and leading to substantial environmental benefits,” the release quoted Ms. Sumita Misra, Director, HAREDA as saying.

MDI’s Dean of School of Energy management, Dr. Atmanand, directed the workshop and was quoted in the release as saying, “Organizing workshops on improved energy efficiency will succeed if all stake holders take lead in supporting the conservation program and comply with Energy Conservation Act that provided a legal framework for promoting optimum utilization and efficiency in its use.”
