1. PM reaches Kazakhstan to promote strong economic ties

(i) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, as  part of his six-nation tour on Tuesday. He met Kazakh PM Kaim Massimov.

(ii) The visit to Kazakhstan is part of the Prime Minister’s tour to Russia and five central Asian nations. 

(iii) Strengthening economic ties between both the nations is high on the agenda of PM’s visit to the central Asian nation. 

2. Women and Child Minister Maneka Gandhi promises stern action against sex determination tests 

(i) The women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi under the, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti  Padhao’ campaign’  urges the state governments to take strict action against persons involving in illegal sex determination tests under PC & PNDT Act.

(ii) In the series, Haryana government, on Monday announced a cash reward of 1 lakh rupees for informers of illegal sex determination tests under PC&PNDT Act. 

3. SC- No need for consent of the father for awarding guardianship of child to an unwed mother

(i) In a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court ruled that there was no need for the consent of the father for awarding guardianship of a child to an unwed mother.

(ii) The bench headed by Justice Vikramajit Sen passed this judgement and also mentioned that the lower courts should revisit the woman’s plea for sole guardianship.

4.Oslo Education Summit – Noble Laureates across the world appeal UN to loosen purse strings

(i) 14 Noble laureates across the world led by India’s Kailash Satyarthi appealed to the United Nations and the International Community  to contribute financially and invest in education to protect children from exploitation and violence. 

(ii)  The joint statement comes a day before the Oslo Education Summit that is aimed at mobilising “strong and renewed political commitment” for children deprived of the right to education, and to improve learning outcomes for those who attend school. 

5. Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) launched solar powered wi-fi and long distance wi-fi 

(i) With the view to serve the Generation X, Union Minister for Communication & IT Ravi    Shankar Prasad with Fred O Matiangi, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications & Technology, Kenya  launched four new products, including solar powered Wi-Fi hotspots and long distance Wi-Fi, at an event in New Delhi on Monday.

(ii) The solar powered Wi-Fi hotspots can be helpful in many ways,  can be used for smart cities, rural schools or panchayats, extending broadband connectivity to remote/ unconnected places. It can also be used in ship-to-ship communications on the deep seas.

(iii) The new product launch are a part of the ‘Digital India Week’.  

6. US wins Women’s FIFA World Cup for the third time

(i) The US Women’s National Football National Team claimed the FIFA World Cup Trophy for unprecedented third time with a 5-2 victory over Japan on Sunday.

(ii) In the first 16 minutes of the game Carli lloyd scored a hayrick taking US score to 4-0 against Japan, with Lauren Holiday adding a goal to put USA up by a wide margin.

(iii) The USA s the only country to win three Women’s World Cup and the country to score most goals in the Women’s World Cup Finals (WWC)
