1. ISRO
launches 4th navigation
satellite IRNSS-1D

i.  India today successfully launched its
fourth navigation satellite IRNSS-1D from Sriharikota in Andhra
Pradesh.

ii. With this success, India moved closer
towards joining a select group of nations possessing its own satellite
navigation system.
iii. Indian Regional Navigation
Satellite System, IRNSS, the system consists a constellation of seven
satellites of which four has been put into orbit till now.

Note: i. The satellite is the fourth in the series
of seven navigation satellites that the space agency is planning to launch to
put in place the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).

ii. The first three satellites in the IRNSS
series were launched from Sriharikota on July 1, 2013, April 4 and October 16
last year respectively.

2. Saina Nehwal
scales historic World No.1 ranking

i. Saina Nehwal created history today as she
became the first Indian woman shuttler to attain the world No.1 ranking after
her closest challenger for the spot, Spain’s Carolina Marin, lost in the India
Open Super Series semi-final.

ii. The reigning world champion Carolina Marin lost
to third seed Thai Ratchanok Intanon 21-19 21-23 22-20.

iii. Though the official rankings will be out
only on Thursday next week, the 25-year-old Indian has been assured of her
ascent to the top owing to Marin’s loss in the last-four stage.

iv. Prakash Padukone had the distinction of
being the No. 1 men’s badminton player but Saina became the first Indian woman
to achieve this feat.

3. Mizoram Governor Aziz Qureshi removed

i. According to the official statement, President
Pranab Mukherjee removed Mizoram Governor Aziz Qureshi removed from his post.

ii. Governor of West Bengal Keshri Nath Tripathi
will take additional charge of state until further appointment.

iii. After removal, Aziz Qureshi had dragged the
Centre to Supreme Court over the issue of removal of Governors.

iv. Qureshi had taken over as the Governor of
Mizoram on January 9, after being transferred from Uttarakhand and had a tenure
upto May 2017.

4. Kambhampati, selected for US presidential award

i. An Indian – American professor Murty S
Kambhampati is among 15 scientists who have been selected for a prestigious US
presidential award for excellence in the field of science, mathematics and
engineering mentoring.

ii. Murty S Kambhampati, a professor of biology
at Southern University at New Orleans will receive the award at a White House
ceremony later this year.

5. Kailash Satyarthi features in the Fortune list of 2015 roster of Greatest Leaders

i. Fortune Magazine has released the list of 2015 roster
of the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders and feature Nobel Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi at the 28th
rank.

ii. The list included Prime Minister of India at 5th rank, which was topped
by Apple CEO Tim Cook.

iii. Others are
European Central Bank President Mario Draghi at the second rank, followed by
Chinese President Xi Jingping at third Rank, Pope Francis at fourth rank and
General Motors CEO Mary Barra at ninth rank.

6. India’s
first e-ration card Service launched by Delhi Govt.

i. Chief
Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal launched India’s first e-ration card service
in the state, to curb
corruption and increase transparency in the system.

ii. E-ration card will be
linked with Aadhaar cards and it would enable the beneficiaries of Public
Distribution System (PDS) to get the cards online from the government’s web
portal without hassles.

iii. The service would cut
down the delays in preparation of ration card and would ensure the fast
delivery to the beneficiaries.
