1. Second & Fourth Saturday will be an off day
in a bank

i. After lot of speculation, the Bank Wage Revision
talks finally came to an end today. The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and
leaders of the Public Sector Bank Unions agreed on settlement of the 10th
Bipartite Wage revision with the annual wage hike in salary and allowance at
15%.

ii. It has also decided that Bank employees will have a holiday on every
second and fourth Saturdays of the month, and all other Saturdays will be full
working days.

iii. The wage revision will be effective from November 1, 2012, which will be
valid for a period of five years.

iv. Leaders of the
Public Sector Bank Unions threatened to call for a four-day nation-wide strike
from February 25, 2015, to push for wage revision. Bank unions also demanded
for five working days a week, which was not accepted by IBA.

v. The wage
revision (10th Bipartite Settlement) of Public Sector Bank employees was
pending since November 2012.

2. “Birdman” won the Best Film award at Oscar 2015

i. The 87th annual awards
presented by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) which honored
the best film of year 2014.

ii. The ceremony took place
at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on 22 February 2015.
“Birdman” won the Best picture and Best Director award at the 87th
annual Academy Awards.

3. Budget Session of Parliament begins from today

i. The Budget Session of Parliament begins from today with President Pranab
Mukherjee’s address to the joint sitting of both the Houses in the Central Hall
of Parliament.

ii.
In his address, the President appealed to all Members of the Parliament to
spend 50 percent of MPLAD fund on Swachh Bharat mission.

iii. The President reiterated the government’s
commitment on inclusive development. He said inclusive growth, including
progress of the most vulnerable sections, is the topmost priority of
government.

4. Anna Hazare launches 2-day dharna in Delhi

i. Social activist Anna Hazare on Monday
launched a two-day agitation against the controversial land acquisition
ordinance in New Delhi.

ii. He along with Medha Patekar started dharna at
Janta Mantar. He accused that the Land Acquisition Act was against the interests
of farmers.

iii. Mr. Hazare said he will not allow AAP or Congress to share stage with
him at the protest venue and the two parties can join it as part of common
people.

5. Somdev Devvarman lifted the Delhi Open title of Tennis

i. Somdev Devvarman defeated Yuki Bhambri by
3-6, 6-4, 6-0 to retained the Delhi Open title
of tennis.

ii. With this, he won the 100000 US dollar ATP Challenger Delhi Open title
for second time in a row.

iii. The
doubles title was won by Egor Gerasimov of Belarus and Alexander Kudryavtsev of
Russia. They defeated Riccardo Ghedin of Italy and Toshihide Matsui of Japan
6-7(5) 6-4 10-6 in the final.

6. Purnendu
Dasgupta conferred with J. Calvin Giddings Award 2015

i. An Indian-American Purnendu Dasgupta conferred with the
2015 J. Calvin Giddings Award for Excellence in Education.

ii. The award is given by the American Chemical Society
(ACS) Division of Analytical Chemistry.

iii. He was awarded for his contribution in the field of
analytical chemistry. He is a
Chemistry professor at the University of Texas at Arlington.

7. Anirban
Lahiri lifted Indian Open title

i. Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri won the Indian Open title
at the Delhi Golf Club. He defeated SSP Chowrasia on the first playoff hole.

ii. World no 39 Lahiri thus won his second European Tour
title in three weeks. He had won the Maybank Malaysian Open earlier this month.
