A Tigmanshu Dhulia creation. I am a fan of his direction, but Bullett Raja disappointed me. Certain parts were good but overall the plot was predictable and hackneyed. Saif delivered a decent performance, Jimmy, Raj Babbar, Gulshan Grover, Vidyut were good. Sonakshi portrayed the typical feisty yet bubbly girl and did okay. Impregnated with loud, jarring dialogues, gusty gun action sequences, dusty and bumpy rides on Royal Enfield Bullet, Bullett Raja has nothing more to offer. Dhulia’s attempt of a rowdy protagonist with a Uttar Pradesh turmoil as a backdrop, typically on the lines of Dabangg, falls flat.

The political-business nexus and its repercussions on the administration is used to create the environment where two youngsters (Saif, as Raja Misra and Jimmy as his friend), unemployed and broke are entrapped into the plot. The plot, although not planned, leads them to become political bodyguards or government goons. Seeing no other alternative they decide to do the job. They succeed. They enjoy the power and pomp, in no time they are idolised by the youth of UP. The free run takes a jolt when an ego clash occurs between the two and Gulshan Grover( a businessman funding the political parties). In order to avenge their hurt ego they kidnap Grover and admonish him for his act of disdain and warns him of no such act in future. Grover decides to teach them a lesson by killing Jimmy. Enraged Raja avenges Jimmy’s death by killing Grover. This murder sends the bureaucracy into a tizzy and the government turns against Raja. Vidyut, a sharp police officer is appointed to hunt Raja down. Plans are devised but it fails as Raja is too smart and powerful. Vidyut was overpowered in a duel, but Raja did not kill him. In their brief interaction, Raja explained he had done everything for honour. One day, insider information of his assassination plan and subjecting Vidyut as a sacrifice for the sustainability of governance is disclosed by Raja’s accomplice. Vidyut is made aware of this by Raja and he believes him, for obvious reasons. Together they devise a counter-plan, makes the government’s plan fail and escape to London.

The film was touted as the comeback of Saif in his Langda Tyagi avatar, but it was a far cry from Omkara’s magical story and performance. After a series of films essaying the typical metro-sexual urbane guy, Saif had decided to don the character of a desi brat but it flopped. Box office figures reflect the same. Saif bhai , buckle up as youngsters might give you a tough time soon, “Gunday” boys are gearing up to re-invent the goon genre of Bollywood and Dhulia saab, better luck next time!
