Padma Shri Dr. Vijay Bhatkar visits SIOM, Nashik

Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management (SIOM), Nashik, students got an opportunity to meet and interact with Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, best known as an architect of the PARAM series of Supercomputers, GIST multilingual technology and Education-to-Home mission. He is also credited with the creation of several national institutions like the CDAC, ER&DC Trivandrum, ETH Research Laboratory, Pune and IIIT, Pune. For his contributions to IT in India, he was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2000, one of the highest civilian recognitions by the Government of India, the Maharashtra Bhushan Award 1999-2000, the highest recognition of Government of Maharashtra.

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta signed an MOU with the University of Melbourne, Australia, on September 14, 2009. The MOU was signed by Professor Saibal Chattopadhyay, Dean, Program Initiatives, IIM Calcutta, and Professor Nasser A Spear, GD Wood Chair of Accounting and Associate Dean (International), University of Melbourne. On the occasion Professor Saibal Chattopadhyay said, “IIM-C enjoys a very good reputation amongst the affiliate universities primarily due to the high quality of students. With this MoU, IIMC’s total number of partner institute goes up to 43″. Professor Nasser A emphasized the fact that student exchanges would help students from both institutions acquire the cross-cultural skills that are critical for modern business. Faculty exchanges and joint research projects and conferences are also envisaged as part of the MOU.

Management institutes are wholesome entities in themselves. Generally. Management institutes (or I should rather call them departments) in the North Campus of The Delhi University are pretty much the best bargain you will find between a conventional management institute and a University set-up with Management studies as just another department.

After its encounter with the RTI case, the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi has decided to take no chances with this year’s admissions. It took more than a year for the institute to reveal the marks breakup for written test, group discussion, interview and extempore conducted for 2008 admissions. These marks were revealed a few days back and continuing in the flow of things, FMS has declared the breakup of marks and percentiles for all students who took the 2009 written test. The marks breakup for the interview process has also been revealed.

The Right to Information (RTI) Act is not another law which results in cases hanging around in court rooms for years without any action coming through. In a major development, the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi has revealed the marks breakup for the entire batch of students admitted to the institute in 2008. Prof JK Mitra, the institute’s Dean, has been fined Rs 25,000 for not revealing the information in time specified by the RTI Act. Also, the admissions of the entire batch of students admitted to the institute in 2008 remains provisional till date.
