What was the last year cutoff for TAPMI?
Where there any sectional cut-offs?

The cut off last year was 88 %ile (CAT) and about 1800 calls are sent for 180 seats (the ratio 10:1 probably explains the cutoff bieng on the lower side). This is probably done to ensure they have a larger pool to choose from!

There were no sectional cutoffs but there may have been different cut-offs for freshers and work ex candidates (am not sure about this) As I havnt met any fresher with a percentile below 90. So am guessing there is a certain level of profiling done when cut offs are sent.

Hello Team,

I am looking for the answers to few questions based on my profile below:

Education: B.Tech (Civil) N.I.T
Work Ex: 5+ years (with one of the top 3 IT companies)

Now for the questions:
1. Can I apply through GMAT?
2. Are there people in the current batch / passed out with more than 4-5 years of work ex, from IT background?
3. If yes, then how have they been placed?

Any inputs from you, apart from the above answers would be much appreciated.

Regards,

1. Yes you can Apply to TAPMI using the GMAT score :chillpill:

2. Well I can tell you about the current batch (senior batch will have to check) that there are students with 4+ years of work experience in IT (and non IT Companies) companies which feature in the top 5. Some of them were PLs in their organizations.

3.Placements for this year is scheduled in december will give you further details then but with regard to MIP ( TAPMI's summer internship programme) these students have been placed in both IT/Non IT companies in the area of their choice.

Also as you might be aware TAPMI is conducting lateral placements this year which will especially benefit students with longer work stints ! This year the cap is 2+ years of work ex.

Hope this makes things clear !!

Adding to Manish's point... there has been a genuine effort to find an reasonable balance between the freshers and lateral composition in our batch. So while on one hand there are freshers (as competent as laterals i might add)....there are laterals with as diverse work ex background as merchant navy and retail outlet manager to those having sales and marketing experience in the services industry. IT is no exception in case of laterals as well.

Hope it cleared your doubts.

Re: TAPMI Admissions 2009 >>> Shoot Your Queries ! - 31-10-2008, 09:02 PM

I've four doubts

(1)

Instruction no 6 says
"While answering the CAT,candidates are required to indicate their intention of applying to TAPMI on the CAT application Form cum Answer Sheet at the appropriate place"

I couldn't make out anything.Please help

(2)

Box 1 has two options CAT and GMAT and two boxes beside each of the choices. There's nothing written how to fill the box no 1.Do we put a tick against the appropriate choice?

(3)

Box 6 says Father's Mother's Name,Occupation,Address,PIN

Which address and PIN are they asking?
My dad's office address and corresponding PIN?or his residence address(same as mine)and corresponding PIN?

(4)

Box 7 asks for Graduation 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th year details, with one column asking for "major subjects of study".I'm an I.T. engineer who passed out in June 2008.We are taught various subject in each semester(2 semesters make a year). What do I do?Also what do I write in the "major subjects of study" column for my Xth standard? We at West Bengal Board are taught many subjects from History to Mathematics.

hmmm......well thers no point askin in a TAPMI thread (where TAPMI students are answerin ) how the insti is as compared to others ! I would say try and find out what you want from an MBA and from a B school. Check if the institutes u have listed fulfill that with respect to each other.

and since you've already purchased the form you might as well apply take a call after u've converted the GD PI of various colleges .
All the best for your CAT !
