poor AWA score

Hi there. I recently took GMAT. Following are the details: Verbal - 38 (85 %tile) Quant - 50 (95 %tile) Overall-720 (96 %tile) AWA - 4 (34 %tile) As you see, while overall GMAT score is ok, AWA score really sucks. It will we…

Hi there.

I recently took GMAT.

Following are the details:
Verbal - 38 (85 %tile)
Quant - 50 (95 %tile)
Overall-720 (96 %tile)
AWA - 4 (34 %tile)

As you see, while overall GMAT score is ok, AWA score really sucks. It will weaken my application. Should I really take the GMAT exam again? I have some two three months time before ISB round 1 opens. Or should I concentrate my efforts on researching schools to apply to and preparing for essays ? How significant is AWA score?

I'm planning to apply to IIMA-PGPX, and ISB.

Please advise.

Thanks
Tapasvi

believe me, its a borderline case for AWA. had it been below 4, it would have been a problem. but trust me, u can make it up in ur applications. ATB

My 2 cents:
Don't worry! I have a 740 in GMAT with 4.0 in AWA. Even with this AWA score I could get TOEFL waiver because my transcripts said that my college education was in English medium. In any case, since you are applying to Indian b-schools, AWA should not make much of a difference.

For admissions in b-schools outside India, you are supposed to prove your English language proficieny by taking TOEFL exam (Test of English as Foreign Language). Some schools grant you toefl waiver (i.e. you can apply without toefl) if you can prove your english proficieny through other means.
