CAT 2007 Discussions: Verbal Ability Section -
17-11-2007, 05:36 PM
Please use this thread to discuss the Verbal Ability area of CAT 2007..
A relevant poll for the scores shall be put up when the answer keys of at least 3 to 4 leading institutes (preferably, TIME, IMS and CL/CF) are known.. I would sincerely request u all to vote responsibly, preferably taking average of the scores obtained from the 3-4 keys, as the poll above would serve as a fair benchmark for one and all till the results are officially out.. you may post your scores as per various keys in the thread, but polling the average is desirable..
Another issue is, the poll options would deliberately be made wider than that in mocks in order to cater to larger strata of CAT takers, and get a fair and realistic normal distribution curve..
So here we go.. ATB, Puys!

PPS: A poll is been added for sectional VA score.. please make sure you have calculated your scores with 3-4 leading coaching institutes' keys.. please poll your average score (obtained from evaluating against different keys)..

Another source.. an article by Thoms Friedman..
When I returned home, I began to read everything I could get my hands on about Israel. That same year, Israel's Jewish Agency sent a shaliach, a sort of roving ambassador and recruiter, to Minneapolis for the first time. I became one of his most active devotees
Hence ANS = E ONLY

VA was less tough then last yr as size of RCs increased. But stii was on tougher side.
RCs were really needed thought process. Answers options were ambiguous.
Apart frm RCs that spelling wala questions saved the day i guess.
Paradigmwala RC ka source!
Knowledge and Postmodernism in ... - Google Book Search
Historian science wala RC ka source!
In Darwin's Shadow: The Life and ... - Google Book Search
I believe cut off shud be around 30-34.

Conclude the paragraph!
--------------------------
Nevertheless, photographs still retain some of the magical allure that the earliest daguerreotypes inspired. As W. J. T. Mitchell observes in What Do Pictures Want?, “When students scoff at the idea of a magical relation between a picture and what it represents, ask them to take a photograph of their mother and cut out the eyes.” As objects, our photographs have changed; they have become physically flimsier as they have become more technologically sophisticated. Daguerre produced pictures on copper plates; today many of our photographs never become tangible things, but instead remain filed away on computers and cameras, part of the digital ether that envelops the modern world. At the same time, our patience for the creation of images has also eroded. Children today are used to being tracked from birth by digital cameras and video recorders and they expect to see the results of their poses and performances instantly. “Let me see,” a child says, when you take her picture with a digital camera. And she does, immediately. The space between life as it is being lived and life as it is being displayed shrinks to a mere second. Yet, despite these technical developments, photographs remain powerful because they are reminders of the people and things we care about. They are surrogates carried into battle by a soldier or by a traveler on holiday. They exist to remind us of the absent, the beloved, and the dead. But in the new era of the digital image, they also have a greater potential for fostering falsehood and trickery, perpetuating fictions that seem so real we cannot tell the difference.

I got it wrong, my answer is a sentence ahead! ;(
The problem is not with 'doing' it, it's with 'not-doing' it!
