Hey Guyz.
I have done my B.Tech in Ceramic Engg. I am a 2010 pass out with 7 months of experience(got very late joining) in a core sector. It went great initially, but i am not enjoying this core field anymore and i want to switch to IT sector(preferably a programmer ot a business analyst). Is there any way to do so?
Sorry if its not the correct link. Could any1 give me the correct link.
I have a very basic question but a tricky one....
This is what my calculation says:
I have 3 years of exp ...I m earning 5lpa, a switch will give me 7lpa n then in next 2 years I will be at 9(approx)..
Now if I go for MBA, i will be loosing the money I would have earned in 2 years + a big loan..
Say I will get a salary of 8-9 lacs...
Can some one who has seen or know some one..how a mba will help me in long run....I heard that in S/W field growth stops at 10-12 lpa is it not the case with MBA? please help...how MBA will help me reaching 20-25 after starting salary of 8-9 lacs...
PS: 4-5 replies from diff seniors would be of huge help and would be highly appreciated.
hello friends! I need your help! =S
I'm kind of new to PG and completely new to this whole MBA thing. Well could you all please answer a few queries for me ?
1. I've heard that doing your MBA from a less reputed institue ( Rank > 50 ) is worthless and the increasy in salary is negligible. How far is that true ?
2. Most of the IIMs consider past acads for GD PI Calls. I got 83.4 in 10th and 85 in 12th ... and i dont quite think it is enough. I've seen lots of peeps who got into the IIMs hve got 90%+ :|
Any comments?
3. Do all institutes consider past acads ? Does the criteria change every year ? Are there colleges which , for the past few years, have nevr given any weightage to past acads? If so COULD YOU PLEASE LIST ME COLLEGES THAT DONT CONSIDER PAST ACADS ?
4. What is PGDM ? PGDCM ? Do they differ from MBA? And are there specializations like MBA in IT? Are they related ?
5. My college has got GPA system, so when the MBA colleges will check my grad score will they check the score of individual semesters or individual years or just (sum of total score in 8 sems) / 8 ?
guys....i need some advice here. i finished my btech mechanical engineeing. i have two offers now, one from cognizant(it) and another from madhu jayanti internationals(core)..iam very sure iam going to do my mba in 2 years time.......the salry aspect of the core company is low compared to to cts.....iam in a confusion now..tell me your suggestions....i know the brand of cts but what about machu jayanti internationals ?..pls reply your ideas....:)

Hi, answers are after questions.
1. I've heard that doing your MBA from a less reputed institue ( Rank > 50 ) is worthless and the increasy in salary is negligible. How far is that true ? This is mostly true.In top-20 colls, you will get an average of around 9 to 18. Below that its around about 6-8(average).Rest colleges have an average of around 4-5.
2. Most of the IIMs consider past acads for GD PI Calls. I got 83.4 in 10th and 85 in 12th ... and i dont quite think it is enough. I've seen lots of peeps who got into the IIMs hve got 90%+
Any comments? Not bad at all. I have seen people with 70s getting IIM call. The profile or the percentile has to be top.
3. Do all institutes consider past acads ? Does the criteria change every year ? Are there colleges which , for the past few years, have nevr given any weightage to past acads? If so COULD YOU PLEASE LIST ME COLLEGES THAT DONT CONSIDER PAST ACADS ? all give some weightage to acads. Some give more(40-60%) and others give 10-20%.Acads can be balanced by a good GD/PI.MDI,NITIE,IMT-G,IIMC,IIML,JB,IIT-D,IIT-B,XLRi,FMS,IIFT etc gives no or less weightage to acads.
4. What is PGDM ? PGDCM ? Do they differ from MBA? And are there specializations like MBA in IT? Are they related ? In India MBA degree is actually PGDM/PGPM i.e. post graduate diploma/program in management. Is one and the same.
5. My college has got GPA system, so when the MBA colleges will check my grad score will they check the score of individual semesters or individual years or just (sum of total score in 8 sems) / 8 ? They will check the percentage in total of 8 sems. Every coll has a percentage calculation formula from GPA.You will have to calculate that give percentage.
All the best
Guys ,
I am quitting the job now and attending some courses like Business analysts courses while i prepare for CAT 2011.Do you think it is good idea? Is it better than sitting at home ideally and learning for CAT?
Provide your suggestion please?
Please i am "Tech support" ,hardly any free time and it doesnt fetch goodvalue outside (I meant the Tag)
Thanks
Okay I am newbie over here on PG(learned that PG is the preferred referral) ...I am totally overwhelmed with the amount of information on this site, so if anyone can guide me with where to start and what all is available on this site.
I know your going to tell me to help myself with looking around, and I assure you that I am doing that right now as your reading this, but still a little more help doesn't hurt.
I'll be doing my coaching from Hyderabad most probably, and anyone helping me with the kind of institutes over there will be a lot of help too.
Lastly if anyone can clear this dilemma of mine that does it really matter if you need EXP for getting a good college? And I meant the top ten.( Yes I am setting my goals high)

hi
i m confused big time here. Help me please anyone, all suggestions are heartily welcomed!!
Details:im a newbie here
Have quite decent School & college Acads!!
Did Electronics Engg. from dce(2010), (gen. category) with good dept. rank
took campus placement in ntpc (2010) to prepare for ias but i got frustrated with anything govt. not going to touch anything sarkari in my life. Now i m in dilemma whether to come back to my Electronics core or do an Mba. i want to leave ntpc as soon as possible.
i basically have 2 options:
1.To quit now, be without any job for few days to 1-2 months(or as long as it takes to get a new decent job in core Electronics field(btw i m confident within 2 months i will have a good job in my hand).Only prob is-my core does not enthuse me very much although i was good at it in college but never did anything extra in Electronics core. And i have a plan to get a higher degree?(Mba/Ms more inclined towards Mba) in my life for sure. now or later that i dont know?
2.To stick here in ntpc a little while and give Cat 2011, i have time to prepare for it, only its hard to study when the place frustrates me. And believe me its tough. Cant resign if going for cat 2011 as gap will reflect poorly(cant sit without job if i have to do mba) And to look for another job is a waste of time w.r.t to my cat preparations. i m not 100% confident that i will get in a decent Mba college this year, (cant say for sure after all its Cat).
Recently i also started considering the window of Gre. but Gre prep. can go hand in hand with Cat. But for this too i will have to stick here in ntpc and longer than needed in Cat as admissions will be in (fall/winter) august, 2012. i can change my job after through with cat in feb but by then jobs in good core will be tougher to get.
so cat 2011 or core not very keen on gre right now atleast can keep it a backup for instead of cat.

Hello everyone,
I did my PGDM (marketing communications) in 2011 and currently working as a marketing professional in one of the start ups.
I want to know what are the other options I have in terms of courses which I can go for except finance which add value to my Marketing degree.
sorry for my botched attempts at posting

HI
What comes in my mind right now is that it is not about CAT ..it is all about leaving job that u want to talk about and you are seeking everyone approval in order to do that 😃 to make peace with ur conscious
Relax!
First it is never advisable to leave job and prepare for CAT.. what after leaving u get a good score and then u get rejects because u left job.. U wld appear as the person 1) who cant handle pressure and multiple responsibilities 2) u cant multi task 3) u dont like working hard 4) u r not committed
this all goes against MBA program which requires all this skill set
Hence first try to convince urself and get urself straight.. what i knw u r not working in a high pressure work enviro..that u wont get time to prepare for CAT apart from doing ur job. try make study groups..meet other puys who r preparing.. try to get motivation from ur surroundings.. don't just shut door of ur room n crib..
And about confidence.. unless u prepare diligently..how do u think u wld get confidence..!! read this thread
http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/all-i-wanted-to-speak-about-cat-25002933
U wld understand how to prepare..see how others r doing..CAT is not jst another exam.. u have to be consistent in ur approach.. as u r from DCE..i guess u have fair idea how things work.. ur profile is good..and I think once u get a call..u will do well..
First focus.. and find out exactly what u want to do..MS and MBA both are two very very different things..if u r doing something just for the heck of it..u wld again find urself in similar situation post 2 yrs!

Unlike finance..there are no courses as such for marketing..it is all about ur work experience

i sincerely thank you for your straightforward words of advice. One thing is sure i won't quit the job right now. i plan to hang on and give Cat 2011 with all my enthusiasm and dedication. i will also give gre in Nov but will study only for Cat as that is what i want. Don't know but its a feeling coming from a voice somewhere inside.
You dissected my situation very frankly. Maybe this is my problem, i just lack in confidence as i haven't prepared much till now. but i guess 1 thing i have for sure is time and its precious. Cat is after all possible in 2011 with a focused approach. I went through the link you pasted and it was heartwarming. i don't want to be a mugger ever sitting alone in a room. Maybe that is what attracts me towards Cat more than anything else . Will Study smartly and cheerfully as i have all my time in this world.
Will be seen on PG more so, as it gave me a through motivation, and oh i needed it badly. Today i just ran through the meaning of words that i had collected from my last novel and just this, imagine just this made me quite happy and thats really awesome :)
Thanks

TIME ( Maths + DI/LR) .. For English(VA) , I m not too sure...wen I took CAT , I scored more in VA than TIME

BTW,its a personal opinion and u will get different answers from puys for that question.
CL/TIME/IMS are all the same. they may marginally beat each other depending on their area..do check with pals in your area about any institute before joining..also personally approach them and ask them for demo classes....
btw ..its already mid june....i think you better decide and join first
