Hi puys,
I am a fresher (B.tech Mechanical Engg.) who gave CAT 2010 & got 99.41%ile. I converted IIM-Rohtak, Raipur & Trichy in their 3rd list. However, I decided not to join but instead to work for 1-2 years and then try CAT again.
But here is my confusion:
I have a job offer from Mahindra & Mahindra Automobiles (Core) & IBM (IT) and I cant decide which to join.
I have heard that IBM workload is less compared to other IT firms and also my posting is in my hometown so I think I may be able to prepare comfortably for the next CAT. But the negative side is that I will have to face the question "Why did you go to IT instead of your core engg. background?" in mba interviews. Also I have heard that IT job gets really frustrating and exhausting.
On the other hand, joining M&M; would make sense as a career option since its related to my engg. subject so i wouldnt get grilled on that during any interview. Also they said after the campus interview that they wanted me in their Sales & Marketing dept. and this makes me feel that I could use this work-ex in my mba to specialize in Marketing and help me in my career growth post-mba. However, only thing is I dont know anything about what kind of job is involved in Sales & Marketing in M&M.; I've heard it involves lots of travelling (which i dont like much) and would leave me with little time to prepare for CAT. Also, i'm not really interested in automobiles & stuff so I dont know if this would be a good career path.
I've been thinking about the pros & cons of both my offers and can't make a decision? Seniors please advice.

M&M;
- Related work ex
- better job prospects afteer mba
- if u dnt like travelling and networking :- not fit
- less prep time
IBM
- Unless u go back to IT, ur work ex goes waste
- limited prospects after MBA as manufacturing exp is rated higher
- Office job
- better prep time
Well as both are very different in nature ; Let's start with first level of analysis:- what u shd ask urself right now is what you like to do. Have u really enjoyed mechanical engg..yes? then why u want to change ur stream and go to IT. Please don't keep MBA in picture while u answer that.
Now second level : take MBA in picture, why u want to do this..and what life u want to live after MBA
Problem with most of us would say more than 90% of the crowd taking CAT is they jsut want to take it. they never think pre CAT and post MBA life..
Life is not an year of preparation or 2 yrs of MBA. people generally aim for MBA they make it their target.. but honestly it is just a means to achieve ur goal.. it should never be ur goal..coz after 2 yrs u wld again land up in same crisis..what next.. people think..why did they waste their 4yrs of engg life and then later work ex..is it justified..coz then after MBA if u dont land up in something u like..something related to ur prior life..u find urself confused..
u urslef knws pros and cons..and the points I have listed above.. think about it..hope it wld clear some air
Hi ,
I am working for a commercial airline as a Pilot. I get loads of free time . I thought of investing that time to get an MBA/PGD through Distance Education.
I have shortlisted 2 courses from NMIMS-SDL (as I'm based at Mumbai and NMIMS-SDL was rated 2nd by ZEE Business)
1) Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM)
2)Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM)
Firstly, are these Post Graduate Diploma courses equivalent to MBA ?
Secondly, can someone please suggest which of these courses would be more beneficial from my future point of view i.e career in the aviation industry? You are free to suggest any other course from some other reputed distance learning school too but please note as I keep flying I can learn only in distance mode.
Awaiting a speedy reply.
Hey i had a doubt...i am BDS student i ll complete my internship in july 2012... Am i eligible for CAT 2011 exam?

Hi,
Can anyone help me know the ROI on IIFT Delhi part time mba programme. I am an ERP Consultant who implements SAP for SME segments, recently i got through their part time MBA programme. I am unsure if the total investment of about 6.5 lacs is worth it.
Alumniis, Gurus, experts all your feedback might help me in my decision.
Thanks in Advance!
Hii
I am doing my b.com from I.E.L.M UNIVERSITY its a manipal university and a distance course , so i am applicable for regular MBA from a reputed college or not?? Please advice....
Also, i'm not really interested in automobiles & stuff so I dont know if this would be a good career path.
If this is the case and u like IT work then go for what u like to do
Also IT work ex will not go "Zero" after MBA if u choose Marketing/sales kind of stuff which are there in IT majors. Its always good it sales guy know the tech part - it may make u more desirable than plain mba's.
I feel even for Finance it may not go Zero if u gets placed in IT company which have finance solutions to develop like Infy which have finacle or other IT firms which have major finance jobs. But only if u became manager etc not a coder in that product line. happy journey

Okay. So here is my story -I used to be exceptional in school - the best student around. Went to Kota, and deteriorated (JEE prep). Then, after two years prep, I did badly in JEE and EEE, and so had to prep again. Got 5k this time in EEE, and could've got almost evrythng amongst NITs, but chose IIIT-A. Some days l8r, my college got upgraded to the best Comp Sci college in India i.e. IIIT-H.
In IIIT-H - I had a dual degree program in CS. I hated the subject frm the strt..and fared bad. Got a CG of arnd five-point-something by the end of 3rd sem, and wntd to leave the college. Fared bad in the fourth sem, a few mnths back and so now hv to leave the colg officially.
All this is fine, and I know I can still do \great/ in life as I have a passion for management, and would like to pursue an MBA.
Now, the problem infront of me is that I dnt hv many choices - Either I choose Amity Noida for grad (BBA) or get smthng in DU(70% IN +2). Please tell me which would help me more for doing an MBA, a BBA or a B.Com/Eco.
Also, I need help on this - I can do well in the GMAT and CAT, provided I study. I dnt want to think abt both at the same time and wnt to keep my head clear. Which one shud I prepare for and how? At what intervals? If I go for GMAT, I dnt wnt to go for wrk ex as my gf's frm anthr religion and her marg wud be on cards in 3-4 yrs. So, I guess I shudnt give GMAT and concntr8 on CAT as that wud balance things, right i.e at least give me a chance in terms of educational capabilities in case I crack CAT?
Now temme this - If I decide to give CAT, since I'll hv three years ahead of me, do tell me hw I shud be prep for it. Now? Next year onwards? Last year? I wnt to strt now - be it GMAT/CAT.
P.S. - I'm a college dropout, in a relationship wid a gal frm anthr relgn, and have also lost 3 yrs after my +2
Thanks for the help and the patience of course 😁

Bpth the courses as mentioned by you are good, It depends on you what your plans are after your current stint as a pilot.
MBA will surely give you an edge once you move beyond your current Job.
I would personally not suggest the HRM course as it would limit your scope to HRM only. Go for the regular PGDBM course as it would be better and will give you a insight of the complete business pocess.

hi...can anybody plz tell what will be the better option regular mba from ip university or mba through distance learning from symbiosis pune?.... m very much confused...thanx in advance..
I have a very basic question but a tricky one....
This is what my calculation says:
I have 3 years of exp ...I m earning 5lpa, a switch will give me 7lpa n then in next 2 years I will be at 9(approx)..
Now if I go for MBA, i will be loosing the money I would have earned in 2 years + a big loan..
Say I will get a salary of 8-9 lacs...
Can some one who has seen or know some one..how a mba will help me in long run....I heard that in S/W field growth stops at 10-12 lpa is it not the case with MBA? please help...how MBA will help me reaching 20-25 after starting salary of 8-9 lacs...
PS: 4-5 replies from diff seniors would be of huge help and would be highly appreciated.

See , if you think u cant improve your CAT performance in 2011 in next year , then i think you should go ahead switch your job , but i would suggest don't generally switch jobs for package , but look at the job profile , switch should typically be made for a jump in the current position , or if you are getting a chance to work for a better domain ,in better technology , or even with a better firm
Packages are a short term solution but you career is made only in the long term , plan it accordingly 😃
guys could u pls help me abut few queries--
1) shuld i go for work ex first then for mba.???
2) I did coaching frm CL new delhi..last yr bt culdn"t crack CAT so when shuld i start now
