See buddy success and failure is not guaranteed in anything one needs to strive for it , you can make it big given that you do what you like

WHY MBA
http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/why-mba-25025178

Go through this thread , it would give some basic information and i think you can get some info on specialization as well

GUYS MY FINAL YEAR EXAMS OF BBA from ndim new delhi ARE OVER , results in mid july approx . my specialisation in 3rd year was marketing . im looking for a job and uploaded resume to timesjobs and monster jobs for something in marketing that will help me in 2011 admission season . what type of jobs/ profiles should i look for and how to search for them ? i want to do mba in marketing or IB , got a few mails but they r of bpo's .

Ya I too would suggest to not run away from such a situation. Instead you can talk to your management and explain the situation - In case the responsibility is still passed back to you then be ready to face the challenge .... and grow into your job ....If I understand correctly, Project management is more of man management - than anything else ...
And if you need any techie help .. reach out to different forums .. there are forums on every damn subject .. seek help on the forums

well its not just one project that is going to be handed over to me, there is one more project in the pipeline which is an substation project. I do agree every job means growing into it but i am getting only 2.16lakhs as ctc and have to work till 8 or 9 pm. I mean i have no exp wrt project management, but i am being asked to get 100% result.I am in chennai and i have to manage people in indore as the site is in indore.i did inform my management abt my probs, but it was still passed on.I would have continued with the job had i had an opportunity to see the project right from the beginning, but the project had been going on for past 5 months and now i have to continue that. I am looking for an better job which would help me during the mba placement ( consulting or finance)

Hi Puys,

I worked at Sbi life for 7 months as Graduate Trainee as an HR earning a little less than 9K till 5th of Apr '11.

10th - 74.8%(2005)
12th - 79.6%(2007)
B.Com (Hons) - 63.5% (2010) from calcutta univ

I have left the job on 5th Apr to concentrate fully on entrance exams as my work schedule was too demanding to continue with MBA preparation.
I want to know if this gap of 1 year or so until admission in a b school will hamper my chances of getting into a good bschool and whether it will hamper my chances of getting a good job later. I am 22 years old. Please help me puys.

Regards

You are
1. Being paid 2.16 CTC after engineering.
2. Being made to work till 8 or 9 :-(
3. EC engineer made to work deliberately on Civil engg projects:shocked:
4. 22
Had I bn in ur place,I wud hv surely left that job. Its good to accept challenges but ur situation doesnt really look like a challenge wich can be gud in long run. It appears that ur company mgmt needed some scapegoat and they found u.I mean its not too common where an EC passout is doing civil engg projects. My opinion wud be either
1. Search for a new relevant job and simultaneously prepare for CAT.
2. Solely focus on CAT.
Think and act.

yes i am planing to look for an alternate job but at the same time i feel shouldnt quit this. I am really confused in regard to what to do. One thing i am sure of is i should get into an mba institute next year for sure.

Hi Puys,

I need your advice, please help me..

I am working with IBM on SAP Basis and XI/PI module from last 2 years. I appeared for CAT and others xams but couldnt got any good B - School. Now i am in great dilemma about my future. I could be going onsite in couple of month but not sure about period.

Should i start preparation again? I have seen many guys who have persuaded MBA from good colleges and working in SAP technology as PM or APM. But not sure about their salary and all. At the same time the guy who has worked for 6-7 years in SAP working in the same designation and even they are at onsite.

So, Please comment here with the thought and suggest me for my future.

You are in a good company and working on very good technology. Leave IBM only if u get a top 20 institute. Go onsite and keep preparing for CAT.
Had I been in ur place, I wudnt hv left it but for a top 20 instt.
Hi All,

I am in a dilemma to choose an option. I currently have a 7 lakh job and working as a project manager in a US based IT company and a work ex of 3 years. Is it worth for me to do an MBA now , and that too from TAPMI?

Here my academic profile:
Xth: 91%
XII th- 95%
BE - CSE- 83 %
Work ex: 3 years in an IT company

Offers:
IMT- Converted Hyderabad 😞 not joining
FORE : converted but not joining
TAPMI- Converted
BIM- Awaiting results

This was my 4th attempt at CAT .
So what will be the suggestion and your take on this? Should i do MBA now? If yes , TAPMI or BIM?
Are there any other alternatives ? IS executive MBA advisable for an experience of 3-4 years with an IT background.

I had already posted this but didnt get more replies or suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Your qualifications are very good...... Your package is also not bad.... You can increase it only by 2 or 3 lacks if you do MBA from top 20 institute but not including top 10.... + you will waste 2 years +MBA fee etc.... My suggestion is that if you get admission in any of top 10 b-school.. go for it otherwise do well in your job and in 2 years you incentives will definitely increase......This is my suggestion friend, And do watever ur heart and mind says..

It should not hamper your chances of getting a good B-school call or a job offer if you are able to clear it in this attempt. But I would suggest you to take a job with lighter workload so that your workex increases as many top B-schools prefer people with workex of around 22 months+. Rest is your call. All the Best

hello all, i am very new here. So kindly excuse any blatant errors in posting etiquette

I am not at all averse to searching

And so i searched extensively in the Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository thread but could not find a suitable answer for me. Hence posting a new thread.

To moderators: In case the mods feel a very similar question has been answered earlier, please merge it appropriately

Now onto the issue.

I am a graduate of IIM K. Worked in IT for 3 years post-MBA (in addition to almost 3 years pre-MBA).
Now I want to shift to the teaching line of career. I am aware that it is a low paying job (at least initially) and it is not as relaxed as it used to be or as easy as it is generally perceived to be.

I believe I am following my heart, and have given 2 or 3 interviews to that end.

QUESTION 1 is:

How should I approach this change in line of career from IT to teaching/academics?

Option 1: Should I join a strictly-average college? This might help me to (hopefully) shine relative to the other faculty (even with my zero nil experience in teaching). Once I build a reputation I can move to greener pastures. However, this might mean a lower starting salary.

Option 2: Should I join a slightly-better college? This might help me to (hopefully) get a better starting salary. However this MIGHT mean I wont be able to shine relative to the other faculty in the good college (since I have zero nil experience in teaching). I might lose confidence in teaching and may not be able to build a reputation for long-term growth.

QUESTION 2
And of course, how do you feel about my shift in career line? I am taking a long-term view, so I am prepared to rough it out for a few (2 or 3) years. I will be getting married this June and if selected I will probably on-roll from July-end or Aug-1st onwards.

QUESTION 3 (Actually feeling bad for this long post as its against my nature to not be brief )
What kind of salary and the minimum post (lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor or Professor) should I ask for?

Which is more important - salary or the post?

QUESTION 4
Anything else I should think about here?

Please do guide me ...

I gave CAT 2010, and after scoring a very decent percentile got calls from a lot of good b-schools. However due to a lot of personal/financial problems, I wont be able to take admission in them. The only feasible option for me is an HR prog that I have got in a relatively cheaper b-school. which is no doubt a good college even though it does not rank in the top 15 or 20.

My question is this - If I go for the HR course this year, and join an HR profile after the course completion, will it be possible for me to change my stream to Finance say after 4 - 5 years of working in HR? I am interested in Finance, and if I keep building up my profile with Finance related certifications and diploma courses, will it be possible for me to make the transition from HR to Finance?

Thanks

Hi Prashant,

Don't be disheartened so much, life doesn't go always as we wish for; your situation is not at all bad, you just have to think about brighter side of it. You have job in hand go for it; gain as much knowledge and skills as you can.
be clear with why you want to do MBA? and what you expect from it? doing MBA because other are doing or just for getting a high package will definitely will not help you in long run, decide what you want to achieve in career 5 or 10 year down the line and work towards it, and off course focus on MBA preparation as well , work hard and you will definitely get in to good bschool all the best....

I would like to add that experience of any kind is no waste as far as u are able to justify it. Dont get dishearten. Guys at my place are suffering frm the same situation but since they dont have an alternate job, they are doing what is given to them. Initially they too cursed the HRD but now they are well aquinted and making their experience rich with their new role. Obviously HR ppl are having a close watch and certainly they wud shift these guys to a dept they deserve. But project being a priority right now, company just requires guys who can manage ppl at site. I would rather advice to have faith on the HRD they certainly have the best in the store for u. Obviously if its physically unbearable to cope up with it, u can search for some other job but at the same time u can convey this to HRD so that they might make some provision.
As far as CAT prep is concerned, u wud really be getting little time. But again u cannot predict whether a job switch wud land u in a cozy situation. Not much though, U can manage time after ur job timings if u give it a try. The last resort is always available, quit the job and then prepare.!!

ATB..
Dear Guys n gals!
what are the job profiles possible after a graduation in civil engineering and then opting for an MBA? what are the profiles which do justice with the B.tech Degree as well.?
please enlighten with your views and knowledge about the matter!

thanks in advance!!

After Civil engg. if u wanna move to core you can get profiles like that of a project manger t staring levels

as for MBA yes you grads make a good amount of difference and some companies do seek for people with B degrees in specific fields even after MBA

CFA would deffinately give you an edge, but not the level 1 only as it is very simple and basic in nature, you need to go for it on the ful and thn it would be a great help..............

Hey animesh!!
Thanks for your reply. Actually, I have to make a start some where, so L1.. My idea is to work for a few years and then do an MBA, then complete the other two levels. The main problem is I am getting a good package, so an MBA would be more of an opportunity cost to me. Given this fact, how should I proceed? My acad credentials are ok ok types:

10th- 90%
12th- 61%(a major screw up cuz of jaundice during exams)
B.Tech- 8.03/10 (electrical)
Work ex- Infosys, Oracle (Total 2.5 yrs+ (7 months+ int wrk ex)) into technical consulting
Package - Around 7.5 LPA (currently 70k USD pa)

Regards,
Shirish.
