I have currently secured seat in SITM, Pune!! But i know i can do much better than this, but for that i cant leave sitm and go for CAT etc next year!!:lookround: Instead i am going with sitm and will again give CAT and XAT next yr!! Any suggestions or any such previous cases??
Hey animesh!! Thanks for your reply. Actually, I have to make a start some where, so L1.. My idea is to work for a few years and then do an MBA, then complete the other two levels. The main problem is I am getting a good package, so an MBA would be more of an opportunity cost to me. Given this fact, how should I proceed? My acad credentials are ok ok types:
10th- 90% 12th- 61%(a major screw up cuz of jaundice during exams) B.Tech- 8.03/10 (electrical) Work ex- Infosys, Oracle (Total 2.5 yrs+ (7 months+ int wrk ex)) into technical consulting Package - Around 7.5 LPA (currently 70k USD pa)
Regards, Shirish.
You dont need an MBA after finishing CFA all 3 levels. In US, CFA is a substitute for MBA in finance because of high fees for MBA(50 Lakh +). So if you are able to finish CFA in the next 2 years, you would not need an MBA(ideally) and you will be eligible for finance jobs.
I think spending 3-5 lakhs in SITM for 1 year is not worth IMO. If you really want to go for CAT,XAT etc next year, I would suggest you go for some job, increase your workex and try again rather than spending 1 year in SITM. There are some people who got admission in FMS(total fees 40K) and DSE-MHROD(total fees 30K) and studied for 1 year, gave CAT again and got admission in IIM-A, IITs etc and left for that. Ultimately its for you to decide so choose well. All the Best.

Hi rohit
I think you will not be doing justice to your MBA at SITM , if you plan to prepare for CAT also , MBA rigor is not easy to handle needs 110% effort , so i would suggest at this moment of time think about whether SITM maps to your future goals or not
PS: i had converted SITM last year , i think its a decent college , given you are interested in telecom domain
Reply/follow-up question to (my own) post num # 3958
I asked for about 3.3L in one of the interviews. I have been shortlisted in that institution with 2 more people. Thats a total of 3 people for 2 faculty positions they have. In other words, I have a 66.66% chance of getting in there
Will my reputation take a beating if I leave the job for a higher salary after just a semester (6 months)? No, I am not after an astronomical salary but after talking to people I realise that 3.3L may be a bit less even to start. The second option is to ask the same college to promote me at par with people with similar qualifications and experience.

Your reputation would depend a lot on the Institute you are associated with.If after 6 months you manage to find an institute that enjoys a better reputation in academic circles you should by all means switch over. A lot also depends on whether you are interested only in teaching or in pursuing academic research as well in the related field , which would involve publishing papers in academic journals and even the odd book or two....in which case you might wan to join a more reasearch oriented institute

Look for a Job with agencies like EURO RSCG, Mudra etc... These are advertising companies. You can also try out with a smaller ad agency as that would give you a good exposure
My questions: i)Will these academics suffice for the institutes I am aiming for?
ii)If I take a drop to prepare for this season's entrance exams, even if I clear the written, how much will the one year gap harm my chances of making it? I have the option of joining as a MR(sales). How much this work-ex help me secure an admission? The problem is that if I go for the job, I won't be able to devote as much time for my preparation. So should I just concentrate on my preparation and try to get a good percentile and not worry too much about the drop? I mean will it be that bad if I take a drop? Or should I try to gain some work experience while I'm at it? Also, if I go for the job,how much is the bare minimum work-ex I should be looking for to gain an advantage from it. Would 8-12 months be good enough? Please help. I'm torn apart and I have to take a decision quick if I have to join the job. Thanks in advance.
I have done bachelors in Animation and multimedia and since may 2010 m working with event managemnt co. as 3d artist but i am not enjoying this field anymore so i am thinking of doing MBA but honestly i am not able to decide in which field my interest is?
So i am confused that whether i should go for Mba in media managemnt OR for general Mba and then later on decide after 1st year in which specific field i want to go for ???

Just concentrate on your written......all those things come into the picture later.....if you can't get the requisite %tile then you won't get call....
I am looking for a serious advice as based on that I will decide my career.
About me: I am career oriented person and all I see is opportunity in every task. I need less effort to get motivated and almost no reason to again demotivated.
I joined a CMMI level company in 2008 and I right now I have 2 years and 7 months of experience.
Now, when I looked back I see a little salary growth and negligible designation promotion. Doesn't mean that I am a average worker. I have done an excellent technical job and had have been apprecaited many time by my managers and clients.
Tehnical Job Overview: I have cleared few certification and I found myself little strong in technical side. Though, some day I feel that this is not what I meant for but I love my job. I love creating new things and .NET helped me a lot.
Functional Overfiew: From last one year I am solely duing the functional work of my project and I become facinated towards functional side of the job. It keeps me active and show me dreams of better salary and handosme designation.
1: Should I go for GMAT again? My guess: I am not sure, I found my self with very less experience and prepration of GMAT will require extensive effort which is not possible for me right now. But I see great opportunities in it and I want to go for MBA sooner or later.
2: Shall I go for Management Quota in any good Indian MBA college? My Guess: Hmmm.. Sounds good. But what if I don't get any placement. I heard that college doesn't allow students from management quota to sit on the campus placement.
3: Shall I continue with my technical job? My Guess: This is what I am doing right now. But at some point of time I am not satisfied. I am looking for better salary and designation which I am sure my current job can not provide me in the next 8 years.
4: Shall I switch myself to functional side? My Guess: Yeah... alternate solution to quickly grab my manager job. But what If it take another long era to build up my resume in functional side. But this solution seems promising and making me dream all day all night.
Please guide me which path should I choose and what should I do? I can go ahead with the combination of above 4 questions too.
What would you do if you were at my place? Any help would be apprecaited.
someone guided me to this thread for the following request I posted :
Hello friends I am here to post a Question which I myself have seen again and again for the past 2 years and read many of answers . Yet I am posting it , hoping that someone may like to give an advice to me , at a very personal level , considering my confused state. I must confess that I kinda messed up my life a lot. A LOT. I did m.b.bs...way back in 2006. While a student of medicine itself, I dint like the way the medical field is going and called it quits. All I learned by looking at life was , make good money and be good. Somehow I did not like to make money by treating patients , felt it like a sin and cruelty. Fortunately I have some comfortable finances from family. Tried to do invest and do something in : real estate ,construction , finance , media... I know you must be wondering why I tried so many. Somehow , call it bad luck.. I just could not find right partners anywhere and I was too scared to put my money anywhere. I ended up with dead investments. Then when I question myself , I felt may be I dont know those managerial talent or I was always a wrong person at wrong times among wrong places. Now , I want to see , if I can do an M.B.A , preferably in a foreign place, which can just give me a comfortable job and a life somewhere . Life at personal front has become too bad and I want to get out of my country and place. Dont want to face a life here anymore. I want to STUDY a lot about money and management and business and I dont mind being a constant student and research scholar too. I feel I am better at books than practical issues. Can someone guide me , if now , with all this messed up profile , can I go for an MBA abroad ? EVEN IF ITS A PAID COURSE , i dont mind , I can buy it. if yes, can anyone please give a detailed insight about it ? thanks friends. PLEASE suggest me : I am a small town guy. Locked up in the same town for years , have no friends who has knowledge about these educations. I am a meritorious student. Can study for days without sleep and can work very very hard to crack any exam. I am really good at books and studies. SOmehow i just had no clue when it comes about managing people. PLEASE help me to pursue an MBA , preferably out of INDIA..and if not...even INDIA is okay

Yes there is a fairly good chance u will get into a good B-school .If you perform well in CAT or any other entrance exam , do fairly well in GD and PI that can easily cover-up for the acads part. But yes as per this years criteria ABIKLS would be tough but as for other top colleges , this wont be a hindarance in getting the calls and once u get a call , its how well u manage your GD /PI matters

Got a fair bit of idea abt wat kinna person u r. Nice to know u r enjoying ur job. I wud say 1. Keep working there wid zest and zeal. 2. Take CAT,GMAT .. if u get a top 20 instt... try to take study leave for 2 years. After 2 yrs , decide wich job to take..ur new job wich u most prolly will get or this old one at higher designation. 3. Its not that that in order to move to functional side, its necessary that u HAVE TO do MBA. Engineers also (can)make it after some years of sincerity and hardwork.
