I m currently working in a leading IT firm and in a dilemma as to quit from job for the sake of preparing for CAT 2011. Although I would have more time to prepare while not working; I would like to know what kind of an impact will this create on the later stages of admission process like GD,PI, etc.
Last time I d prepared for about two months while working and just managed 55 percentile and so I m not sure whether I should be doing the same this time as well but with additional no. of mocks or the work exp I have so far should be enough so that I can quit and concetrate fully on CAT.
My Profile: 10th - 82% (CBSE) 12th - 78% (CBSE) B.Tech - 7.6 CGPA IT Exp - 25 Months
Please Advice!
to be very frank to you if i were in ur position at 55% in cat even without or with 2 months prep i would not leave the job , ultimately it is your call but leaving a secured job for test preparation is a big risk and even a bigger risk when you haven't performed in the past .

DONT LEAVE YOU JOB, unless your selection is contingent upon your leaving the job. With your profile and your age ( I am assuming you are 23/24) you should give it a serious try while working .
hii guys desperately need some advice- i have got the offer from GLIEMR(pgp energy management 2011-2013).i have around 3 yrs work exp as Software developer in CTS and presently drawing a salary of 3.6 lack p.a i am in a dilemna to whether join it or not considering the pro's and cons
Advantages- Brand name of Great lakes. pretty good summer placements as Psu's like HPCL,BPCl ,IGL, etc came to it. smaller batch size(60)and summer placement offer of 1.5 per student
disadvantages Not aicte recognised course. no infrastructure as its own building is expected 2 be complete by feb next yr. placement package this would be 2nd batch of Energy Management course. So cant guess the type of companies 2 visit the campus
if i reject this offer then considering that the only other convert for me was imt-dubai( but i am nt willing to join it considering ROI of 16 lc).so i will have to write CAT again next year i know the final decision is upto me but i would appreciate any valuable suggestions from you all as currently i am confused..
- In case you got these scores after preparing sincerely for CAT for a couple of years- YOU have a strong reason to look at other options. The only decision variable is whether you wanted to do a course on Energy management My suggestion - if energy management is what you want to do - then go for it .. else take CAT again ..
The below is my current situation: I graduated in 2002 after which I pursued CA Inter for 5 years. In spite of all my efforts I could not clear the exams. Subsequently I quit education and took up a job in 2007 with a BPO/KPO. I covered my gap in education by saying that I did my family business.I didnt want to lie but I really struggled to find a job and hence I had to lie. The current company I work for does not conduct background checks in a stringent manner. After 4 years of experience I am planning to quit my company and join a new one. Should I tell my new employer the truth or should I continue with the same lie? What are the chances of my new employer finding out the truth in a background check?
Hi, I am working as a business analyst in Mu-Sigma,Bangalore since Feb,2011......I have converted the interview of HPCL for the post of executive trainee.......they told me interview that it will not be a routine plant job and u will be put up in marketing roles.........i don't know anything abt this kind of role and moreover should i join HPCL coz kind of work i am doing at mu-sigma is much relevant for my long term goal of doing an MBA.........i got a call from FMS this year but could not convert...........my cat percentile was 98.57..........i will give a shot to cat this year for the last time..........positives abt HPCL are very good pay, benifits of a govt.job etc........Plz give some suggestions............:)
guys experienced MBA ones suggestions required my cousin got through BIMM pune and kirloskar which one you would suggest to go for MBA.please replay ASAP!
Kirloskar at Harihar or Kirloskar at Pune? ...
BIMM and allied institutes have a big batch to place; whereas the batch at Kirloskar is much smaller .... which means better chances of better placements..... On the average/ median salary front there should not be much of a difference.. Kirloskar Pune, on the other hand is a relatively new campus .... placements will be an issue

Kirloskar. I hv heard that BIMM trains its students like soldiers..i mean there r unnecessary hurdles and at the same time placement aint too good.
I am working in a major Oil PSU for 20 months. The job profile is not quite exciting and involves routine work(it is basically technical support to sales function).Though the volume of work is quite high but in totality it doesn't require any creative thought. Sal package - 7 lakhs
My profile is as follows:
Grad: Mech engg. - 9.4 on scale of 10 12th - 77 %- CBSE 10th - 81 %- CBSE
Extracurriculars- decent
Given my work profile, I can not spare more than 2-3 hrs per day for CAT. Gave CAT last year(2010) by preparing just for 2 months. Got 94.3 though DI took me down @ 72
I could not get any call from any of the IIMs (probably due to low DI score). No call from NITIE MDI -did not apply My FMS score was 95 % ile .
Given my average score in 10th and 12th, do you think its worth going for another try on CAT this year. Can these scores be an impediment in getting call from any IIM? Please give me the larger picture. I know I am out of race as far as IIM Shillong's this year 12th marks criteria is concerned, But what about other IIMs? With a high CAT score and engg. grad. score of 94% and about 24 months work ex and 81 and 77 % marks in 10th and 12th, can I expect IIM calls?
Does preparation of 2 months(with good background in verbal) suffice for cat?
Also I have learnt that the cutoffs for fellow programmes in IIMs are quite lower than that of regular PGDM( say 91-92 %ile). Is it true? Can we get into these programmes straight after B. E.?

@alexsauie: Your university has already issued you a duplicate marksheet for your 1st Sem. I don't see a reason why any company will have any problem with that. no worries dude..go ahead and get the job!
hii puys! I have been working for about 3 years now. From 2007 onwards, I have been taking CAT but because of low scores in one section, I am not able to clear all the cut offs. Though, I got calls from IIM I, S this time but couldn't convert them. My acads are: 10th 88% 12th 82% B.tech 86.5% My percentiles so far have been 93->91->97->93->? (CAT2011) What do you say...should I go for this one or not?........... as I am turning into a fatalist each time i retrospect

the larger picture here is based on your 10th and 12th scores A , I ,K , L,S are already out of your hands(as per this years criteria) but yes C and ranchi are still there on pure cat score
regarding whether 2 months would be sufficient is totally upto your own grasping power ,aptitude and bit of luck , some people do it in a month and some take a year .It is certainly not improbable if you have the right aptitude for cat.

Dear amit thanks for the reply.
I infer that colleges which are giving fixed weightages to 12th and 10th scores i.e K,L,S,I,Raipur, are not meant for me coz my composite score would be quite low. But my work ex would be greater than 24 months by then and I can possibly hope for some reprieve????

nope work-ex doesnt have much value in getting calls unfortunately .
Kindly help me puys. I am 2009 engineering passout (electronics and communication). Since I wasn't interested in taking up an job in engineering and IT. I went for an part time mba program (the classes were only on mon to wed that too only 2 hrs daily) and then joined an company in 2010. The first year was an gr8 experience as I was involved with research and preparing business cases. Lately this month my boss had resigned and his duties were given to me. Now I am being asked to manage a working project (civil construction job in power sector) which were managed by him for 6 months as he was an civil engineer with 7 year exp. Had no clue abt the project and one fine day they said I would have to take care of it. I havent visited the site and I have no clue how to execute an civil job. Though it involves only managing I will be held accountable here after for the project which is going in loss. There are several problems like labour payment, vendor payment I am finding it extremely difficult to understand how it is to be done but the management says I should grow which I am finding as pathetic as asking an ece guy with no exp to manage an civil job. I am planing to run away from the job and search for something better. I also have planned to join an mba institute next year for sure and prepare for my entrance exams right away. So puys I want ur opninon with regard to am I doing the right thing or should I not run from my responsiblities. I have planned to join in an consulting or finance company after completing my mba.i am scared to quit as I have lost one year doing nothing (09 - 10) as I don't think I gained substanially in that part time program

rather than being scared to quit you should be scared of joining a consulting firm or fin firm because as far as i remember eveyrthing involves growing into the job and not running away
Hi friends Im currently pursuing BE from Delhi college of engineering ,IT branch 3rd year. Let me come straight to the point.I have 92% in 10th ,78 in 12th and 52 till 4 sems in BE.I dont know how this may sound..but considering Application rating and all ...do you guys think I could make it to IIM calcutta (the only IIM which considers CAT scores only and not THAT much to previous acads.. So ..if I do manage to get 99.5+ percentile..then do u think I could get a call? Or..is it that this 52 percent have made IIMs way out of my league..Coz I havnt heard ANYONE getting 52 percent in btech making it to IIM..

Ya I too would suggest to not run away from such a situation. Instead you can talk to your management and explain the situation - In case the responsibility is still passed back to you then be ready to face the challenge .... and grow into your job ....If I understand correctly, Project management is more of man management - than anything else ... And if you need any techie help .. reach out to different forums .. there are forums on every damn subject .. seek help on the forums
