Confusion over MBA or Mtech in Civil Engineering field
Hi to all,
I have just finished my Bachelors in civil Engineering - Chennai (Anna University afflicted college) and now i want to study masters(only in INDIA, have no idea on going abroad). The problem is i want to go for MBA whereas my dad tells M.Tech is best for guys in civil engineering.
Hence i have to make a quick decision and hardly have time , so seniors here pls guide me. Also is thr any scope if we study MBA after civil engg in my field ?? Any specialization towards this field is there ?? I dont want to go for M.Tech (as i am not that technically sound though scored an aggregate of 71 %) . Well thats my personal opinion but if M.tech has better scope than MBA i will reconsider it however...
Few people also told me that in my field Experience is important and hence work for 2 yrs and then go for masters ..
hope i get some ideas here..Thanks in advance

i am due to graduate this month . . .
I gave cat and omets this year
was fucked in CAT-89%
got calls frm IIFT,XLRI-BM and HRM . .
was unable to convert any of dem
plan to take the exams again nest yr . however i am in a fix
i have got two offer - IBM(GBS) and Mu Sigma . and i am confused about which one to join .IBM will most probably post me in Kolkata(my hometown) and therefore i will get time to prepare for CAT .
Mu sigma is based out of b'lore and gives me an opportunity to get into analytics and differentiate my profile . however i have read not so positive comments about mu sigma on this very forum about thr work culture etc etc etc . . .
and now i am confused . . i m due to join mu sigma on 9th of june and havent received the joining letter from IBM yet . .
any suggestion will be gadly received . .

i wud suggest IBM if u planing for cat .MU sigma wud work your ass of with the dirtiest work...having 2% and hence a shot at better college is better than having better work ex to show but 2%ile less marks
thanx . . have u worked in mu sigma ??
Atul Mishra Saysthanx . . have u worked in mu sigma ??
nope but did some research on it as there was on off campus of it in my college i was shortlisted for last year...
same here . . . i also did some reseach but dont u think coming frm an IT background does nt elicitate a very positive response in prospective b-school interviews . correct me if i am wrong

I also worked in tcs for 16 months and yes what u are saying is true but here is my take on it
1)what is more important 98-99% with not so good work ex or 96-97% with good work ex??
2)if u feel that u wud be able to give same perfomance in ur mba exams working in MU sigma or working in IBM(add the hometown advantage as well) then go for better looking work ex , but i wud not like to loose on my 1% because of IBM vs MU sigma..

I will be graduating in a few days. Have an offer at Evaluerseve, Gurgaon as a Business Analyst. There is a 2 year bond which I will have to sign if I join. But I'm from Mumbai n so I would prefer being placed here itself.
Also I'm thinking whether I should take the CAT this year or wouk for 2 years.
So some1 who is experienced, please tell me if I would need 2 years work ex to enhance my chances of better placements post B school, since my acads are rather poor, or 1 year wil be ok.
Also how can I apply to companies in Mumbai n to which of them ? I am not too interested in Analytics actually. Would want a more hands on job like say a management trainee or a marketting/sales manager etc

but whatever u are saying is absolutely spot on . . .

Hi All,
I am in a dilemma to choose an option. I currently have a 7 lakh job and working as a project manager in a US based IT company and a work ex of 3 years. Is it worth for me to do an MBA now , and that too from TAPMI?
Here my academic profile:
Xth: 91%
XII th- 95%
BE - CSE- 83 %
Work ex: 3 years in an IT company
Offers:
IMT- Converted Hyderabad 😞 not joining
FORE : converted but not joining
TAPMI- Converted
BIM- Awaiting results
This was my 3rd attempt at CAT .
So what will be the suggestion and your take on this? Should i do MBA now? If yes , TAPMI or BIM?
Are there any other alternatives ? IS executive MBA advisable for an experience of 3-4 years with an IT background.
As the last date for payment of fees is just a couple of days away for TAPMI , an advice sooner will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Now i want to change my profile in finance as i am pretty much inclined towards it, i have an offer from copal partners in which role is financial analyst. Also this year i will give cat/xat/fms and hope to get into one of the top B school. So is switching now will be a good idea. will it be of any help if i have less than a year exp in finance when i join B school.
anybody has idea abt copal partners ?
is it worth to leave tcs as developer and join copal partners ...
Hello Friends,
Actually I am working as a Software Engineer for an IT company. And presently I feel the need to start a business of my own. As it is just a startup I am not sure how successful it would be. So I want to parallelly work in my company as well as devote some time towards the startup too.
My doubt is that whether I am allowed to do so. That is, in India are we allowed to work for a company(especially IT ones) and start and work on a business of our own too.
Thanks everyone.

It is good that you want to change your profile to finance. However, IT experience will not be considered relevant in the financial industry. You will have to start afresh over there.
Copal Partners is a KPO I guess and on a profile of financial analyst you can certainly build a relevant experience for financial domain. However, any experience which is less than 15-18 months realistically doesn't help you a lot.
I will suggest you to make long term plans for 5 years at least and pursue it step by step. Set your goals and hit them hard. Profile should be the first preference for you than company. However, evaluate your intensity of passion towards finance, capabilities to the hit the desired goal, time frame that you have and responsibilities before you take a call.
All the best...

Thanks for the reply. I have already made 3 attempts and it will be difficult for me to try again. Its either MBA now or no MBA i guess for me. And also for executive MBA , may be i will have to wait again for 3-4 years , isnt it? Considering all this , isnt TAPMI a decent option?
Hi all,
This is not for me but a younger cousin who just completed his XIIth
He isn't too interested in doing engineering. He has a lot of aptitude for Maths though. He has got some idea in his head of doing a Msc. or even a PhD in maths. As an older brother, he sought my counsel regarding future career prospects for a Bsc./Msc./PhD in maths.
What career prospects does a Bsc. or Msc. in Maths from a top college in DU has? If he ever decides to do an MBA, how will a degree in Mathematics help him? One of my friends did his Bsc. in Maths from DU, but wasn't too enthusiastic about its immediate career prospects. Does an Msc. change that?
He doesn't expect to get into any good engineering college this year since he didn't take any of the exams (AIEEE, JEE) seriously. Other than engineering, what other courses can he pursue in technical fields (unlike me, he has no interest in humanities)?
As someone from an arts background, I'm afraid I don't know too much other technical fields. But he does look up to me (which is a real shame 😉 ) and really listens to what I have to say. I don't want to give him the wrong career advice and end up ruining his career.
Looking forward to hearing opinions from you guys.

If you convert IIM Ranchi - Go ahead!
If not join Evalueserve, it is a worth joining KPO and take CAT again. Having experience as a business analyst will always help you in getting through premier B-Schools.
All the best
