Hi....

I hav a good academics in 10th and 12th(above 90%) and in coll i hav nearly(92%) but i had one arrear which i hav cleared. The reason for arrear being that I was not feeling well the day before exam. So i dint wrote the exam well and subsequently i got an arrear.
Will this hamper me in getting the calls??(from blacki?? can u explain me induvidually abt these institutes how they l treat the arrears?)

Also in personal interview can i tell like,,Well I was not feelin well before the exam(the reason for the 1arrear) and may be my CGPA(overall %) tells my caliber... Is this explanation ok???

This question is slowing down my pace gonna take cat11

Thanks to the pagalguys in advance

hi everyone
i am a student of medical background fourth year
i always had an aptitude for maths but was misled during my schooling days and thus ended up taking biology (was very average at it )
cleared PMT owing to exceptional scores in physics and chem

though i have been an average performer in my entire graduation(mostly because i studied out of exam pressure ) but i have least interest in the subject(even at my best try its hard for me to concentrate on a lecture)
and the fact that there is something else out there which i like and also very good at makes me hate my current profession even more
i have a very good aptitude level and am good at improvising

but the problem is with my basic nature .....i am not a public oriented person.......you can say i get intimidated easily.......though after introspection and realizing this shortcoming i have sincerely worked hard to change it and have achieved some success......but its really hard to change what you have been since childhood
the decision of doing MBA has not been a sudden one .....i chatted with a lot of seniors from reputed institutes and everything about the curriculum made we want to do it
i know that its not common to switch my current field but i am sure i do not want to cram books for the next 10 years .....i want to do something which forces you to think ......something innovative and creative

i am interested in finance since it requires aptitude and i have a knack for mathematics
marketing doesn't really go with the kind of person i am

also i have heard that its really hard for a person of medical background to get into operations and finance.....is it true?

experts please help me know if there is an inherent temperament required for being a successful manager ?

since you have cleared your arrear, there will not bbe any problem.
You can tell the truth in the interview and calls are based depend on academic percentages, so you have good chance for iim.

just prepare well for cat.

do a complete research abt the job profile they offer .. if u think u can survive in that condition with out any hiccups , u can go ahead with your switch .. i dont find anything against this decision if you are potent enough

Always remember this proverb "look before you leap"..

good luck !

Though i am not senior to u , my suggestion would be dont think abt it at this moment ..

focus on interviews ! if u happen to convert the calls , decide from there

Now jus focus on your conversion of calls .

good luck !

ps : you can always revisit this thread after ur call conversion

wht other options u have.
Dear ceoruchika...the situation you are in is not something unique to you:. Many have undergone such crisis (including me) & many still undergoing. There's no quickfix solution to this:lookround:. I will tell you my experience. I am a mechanical engineer. I too had an excellent job offer from CTS. Attended a foundation training for 1 month. During the foundation training, I realized that coding doesnt interest me at all. I did not want to be a software engineer. So I tried simultaneously to get into a core mechanical industry. The foundation training in Noida got over & was told to report at Pune Office after exactly 6 weeks. So I had 6 weeks to explore. I luckily got an offer in Noida in an Excellent manufacturing MNC. I still thank God for the opportunity. Suddenly after 3 months of joining I started losing interest in that job as well. I thought I am made for an MBA. I gave CAT but flunked. I too soon developed a dream of setting up a Restaurant like you. But all this while I stuck with my job despite having least interest. I again gave CAT with whatever little prep I could manage. Got 93.92. Didnt apply anywhere as I thought I am capable of getting 99. So again gave CAT & got almost same score & again didnt apply anywhere. Didnt give up the job though. Gave CAT again last year. Got 90 this time. I have now changed jobs now & still haven't given hope of doing MBA. But I have gained tremendous amount of wisdom in the last 3 years of my work-ex. With a Job-in-hand I have a certain self-confidence. CAT is unpredictable. Even with top-notch preparation you are not guranteed a 99%ile.
So I would suggest you to grab any good offer that comes your way. Even if you have little or no interest in working now, you will learn to survive tough situations. Dropping is the easiest thing in the world but getting 99 isn't my friend. You need to have a strong will to crack the CAT. If you feel being at home will help you in preparing well, then look for a job in Delhi, there's no issue with it at all. Its true that In India, Work-ex is not given too much importance, you would get into a good college based on a high %ile but for your own betterment & self-confidence, I would suggest you to take up a job. So don't get disheartened.
And lets hope we both someday run our restaurants succesfully.:cheerio:

Hey rockinmukul...man you have a family business. Just grab this opprtunity at the earliest to gain experience. Even if it will not help you in getting selected in a good MBA College (As colleges consider only the %ile for shortlisting for interviews), the experience will help you gain a psychological edge over the freshers when you, eventually, do join an MBA college. Any gap during education or after education should explained well during the interviews if asked. You have the cushion to tell that you had joined your family business. So try hard in this year's CAT & get some exposure in the meantime in your family business:cheerio:.[/QUOT

will it be considered as an experience while filling up the form? thanks for ur above reply
